There's a brunch place that has been on my list for a while but keeps getting bumped for other places for other reasons.  Today, so far, nothing is bumping.  They don't open until 10.  So I have time to do this and that.

I do want to change the sheets on this bed once I get out of it for good but I'm still enjoying my coffee and writing a journal entry first.

I had more ants yesterday afternoon and evening.  The little ant killing hotel/motel seemed to do little.  My homemade brew of alcohol and dish soap and water  seemed to do much better.  And, cleaned the floor!!

We're still trial and error with lots of error on the cat food front.  I'm beginning to think that they will eat anything unless I bought a lot of it.  I stopped in the nice pet food store yesterday and the guy gave me four cans of something called Lotus.  He said that they had just gotten it in and hadn't had any experience with it.

I opened a can this morning and split it between the two of them.  I just went in there to pick up the bowls so the ants wouldn't go after the remainders.

The ants were fucked.   The bowls were licked clean!!! And every single dry kibble was gone.  Wow.  Making notes.

After brunch, I need to stop by Safeway and that's it for things that really need to be done today.    It's supposed to be much cooler today so I might wander up to the Asian festival.  It's lovely to have another day of no 'have to's.

I ran into a whole House o' Henry (one of my favorite artists of all times) I had never seen before.  It's at Nickerson and 3rd in Seattle and it's so cool.  If I owned a house, I'd have Henry henry it for sure.

Whenever I go into my Chrome history to find some page I was looking at yesterday, I am shocked by the shear number of web pages I look at every day.  Every time.

When I was in college, my roommate, Kristy Jacobs (where, oh where are you now, Kristy?  Maybe you will google yourself and find me), was from Maplewood, NJ and her parents owned a deli there.  It was the most amazing place.  Everything was so delicious.  I used to love to go to her house which meant the deli.  Among the most wonderful things they made, her mother made a coleslaw dressing that was just orgasmic.  I remember watching her making it and noting that it was dirt simple but not - unfortunately - noting the ingredients.

For years, I'm been trying to find that taste and today I found it.  For some reason last night - as I have many many times before - I searched for coleslaw recipes.  Last night, however, I found one that was both simple and different.  I got the goods at the grocery today.  I chilled the cabbage and just now made up the dressing using the formula exactly.  I really didn't think it was it until I tasted it.  OMG.  And this is even before it sets!!!!

The hunt is over.  This is cabbage nirvana.

1 1/2 pounds cabbage, shredded 1/8" thick
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup whipping cream
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Place cabbage in a large bowl. Cover and refrigerate until well chilled. Mix sugar, vinegar, and salt in a small bowl. Add to cabbage and toss well. Add cream and toss again. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper; serve.
Serves 10 to 12.

Ok, +Lori Friedrich - here you go!  Proof.  I like mine skin on and I did these in the oven.  YUM.  Thanks so much for the tip.  I can't wait to try the other Select marinades, too.  Been shopping there for years and never saw these before!
