Notes so I don't forget...
I called Dr. Field's office first. He's the guy that Ann Brown says I must go to. His office is fairly inconveniently located but they do provide transportation before and after which I think is pretty cool. Anyway... I called.
They had a telephone tree that was very annoying. After punching in several rungs I was told my wait time and what space I was in the queue. LOVE the personal service so far...
But once there, the woman who answered had a lot of good information.
The initial appointment is 1.5 hours to 2 hours and they would dilate my eyes.
Then if they deem the cataracts ok for removing, they apply with my insurance company for approval of payment.
Then if approved, they do.
First available appointment is Tuesday, April 10 at 10:30. Insurance application is 3 weeks. Then it's another 2-3 until surgery.
I got the distinct impression that they were way too big an operation. I'd be #xxxx with lots of opportunities to fall through the cracks and little chance of fruitful communications.
But there's something to be said for economies of scale and automation so it's worth a shot as a backup.

Then I called Dr. Choy's office. A very nice and helpful person answered on the first ring.
First available appointment is April 2 at 3:10.
My current plan is to go to see Dr. Choy and hear what she has to say. I'll keep the Dr. Field appointment depending on how it goes with Dr. Choy.
Given the lead times, I'm glad I got the process started now instead of waiting until later in the year.

I'd really like to be knocked out for 24 hours and everything be done when I wake up.
