Delightful Surprise
Sep. 11th, 2002 03:51 pmSo about a year and a half ago I stumbled on to Trillian which is an IM client - 1 for all systems and really cool. I've used it steadily since. There have been some rough spots. AOL has tried several times to make it impossible for their software to work. But, every time, these guys scramble and put together a fix and usually within 24 hours and it's free. One day after a nasty little AOL bout, they put a fix up and I was messing around with it and saw a delightful note about support. They very tactfully asked for support money. I think it was like $5 or $10 and they made it very easy so I gave them some $$. Not much at all. Immediately, I got a wonderful note from them. I was so nice that I was embarrassed at the small amont I had given them.
Cut to yesterday. Out of the clear blue, I get a note from them telling me they have just released Trillian Pro and because I donated, I get it free for a year. How nice is that? Plus this little sucker rocks. It checks email, check weather, checks news, checks stocks and gives me IM capabilities. What a very cool thing.
Of course, it's me and so there is a down side. The version at work works great. The version at home doesn't work so great. And I'll be damned if I can figure out why. At home the pop email plug in won't check my mail on any of my email accounts. At work, it does fine. Grrr this is making me nuts. I think tonight I'll uninstall it all together and clean out everything and then reinstall it. Maybe. If i can't figure something else out.
