Again - no earth shattering anything
Sep. 17th, 2002 05:32 pmI spent a good part of today setting up an extranet for our developers to use to provide files for one of our customers. We had to put it on this one server and it was a bit complicated. My IT buddy knows what I don't and vice versa and between us we can usually bumble our way through stuff and we did this one. Security here was an issues because the customer is a big bank and they were very concerned that someone might stumble on their files - these are WAV files of automated telephone calls. Not exactly national security stuff but whatever.
So we get through all the problems and I even built a nice little ASP page so that all the engineers have to do is drop their files into a folder and the web page will automagically display all the links on a very classy looking web page. (This will also relieve me of having to download a big zip file from the work network and then uploading to the web server every night which I've been having to do for the past 2 weeks.)
We get it all done and send the engineering manager a note explaining how it works with links and all the info he needs for his people and his customers. What do we get in return? A whiney note asking if the 'old page' is still available. (You could fire up a browser and look, asshole.) Silly me, I was kind of looking for a 'wow, thanks, great job - beyond the call of duty!!' GRRRRR
Ok, back to our regular programming....
I am actually leaving the living room for a weekend! Yep. I'm going to L.A. in November for a weekend to see my friends Jon and Page. I haven't seen them in 3 years and that's about 2.5 years too long. They took me to Las Vegas for my 50th birthday - the perfect way to celebrate. I met them minutes before they became a couple 23 years ago when we all lived in Charlotte, NC. I moved to Connecticut and they moved to New York. I moved to Minnesota and they stayed put. I moved to northern California and they moved to Southern California. They are wonderful guys who make me laugh and keep me current and make me feel smart. I love them both dearly and can't wait to see them.
Time for dinner.
