Little Joys

My house cleaner came today and the house smells wonderful plus I have clean, ironed sheets to look forward to tonight. And the closet doors are gone!! Yahoo!!

Plus I even got lucky on the RFP front. The guy in charge of pulling it together reread the requirements and learned that it's due on Thursday and not Wednesday. So today I had tons of time to draw up a skeleton doc all formatted nicely and ready to have the answers plopped in. I should have most of those answers by 10 a.m. tomorrow and have all day tomorrow plus half of Thursday to get it all right. This is pretty much a miracle - about 10 times the amount of time I usually get for the task.

My boss - the one who's out with the new baby - is one of those perfect people. She's young and energetic and cute and talented and always on top of the world and very nice and friendly and kind. The opposite of me. I'm pretty competent but not young or energetic or cute or talented or nice or friendly or kind. In a meeting today a couple of the guys said 'I thought you were supposed to be like Jodi while she's gone.' I told them 'no fucking way!' My job is to make them ever so glad to see her when she gets back. They thought I was doing a great job of that.

Italian Prunes

Somehow I managed to live about 49 of my years with no knowledge of Italian prunes. About 4 or 5 years ago someone brought a bunch into work and I got hooked. Now every year about this time someone I know has more than they can handle and I get the surplus and am I ever a happy camper. I'm not generally a fruit person. I like tangerines but their short season is enough for me. I like apple pie if I have a lot of vanilla icecream on hand and peach cobbler with a dose of really cold half and half or whipping cream. But, I swear I'd turn into one of these Italian prunes if they were available year round. My neighbors brought me a bag this weekend and I'm trying to make them last in case they are the last for the year.
