I'm beginning to think that maybe these folks at 'the home' are just not the sharpest knives in the drawer. This is a little different than my previous thoughts that they were deviously screwing us over.

Mom's new room will get free carpet and free paint done before she moves in. However, today I learn that we will be billed $45 for the painter and the cost of the paint. I do not have a magnifying glass strong enough to ascertain where in the fuck the free is in that. They have yet to pull the hidden charges out of the free carpet. Lordonlyknows.

So I am loading up my email shotgun and pelting them with lists of things they have told me over the phone and questions they have yet to answer. I want every single thing - and every agreement in writing. And each of my notes ends with 'you agree that other than stated above, there will be no other charges'.

As I typed that last paragraph, I got two more emails - and we are down to one last clarification about move in/move out charges... Whew. I am going to need a nursing home by the time I get Mom settled. Whew.

She is doing good. She went to the cardiologist yesterday and he took her off the medication that everyone thinks is causing her tremors. And she was quite proud this morning that the Yankees got beat. She said it was a struggle to stay awake for the whole game but she did and she was proud.

Time for me to get to work...

While waiting for someone to get back to me about a web page, I flipped over to check my stocks.

I have all 9 of them laid out on a Yahoo Finance page. Usually, when I click on the link to it, I first notice how many of them are showing red. As with political maps, red is not good. Red is bad. Then I check the bottom of the column showing today's gain in a dollar amount and usually see that it, too, is red or black and small.

Today, I clicked on it and saw that four out of the 9 are showing red but that the today's gain amount is a nice, black $155.23. This is a lovely surprise. I looked at the detail and discovered that my Sirius stock has had a serious (pun intended) gain. At the bottom of my stock page are links to 'recent news' about my stocks and the top headline is [$$] Stern to Move From Viacom To Satellite Broadcaster Sirius. I've always considered him an obnoxious idiot but today I think of him more as a profit center. Bless his heart.

If this keeps up I could recoop all my losses and get back up to the amount I put into the Ameritrade account in the first place. As it is now, I'm only down about 5% total.

If I were smart, I'd probably sell those SIRI shares today. But, when I was standing in line trying to decide between beauty and brains, I looked over and the beauty line was much shorter...
