Long, long day... but I got a lot done.

When we moved everything out of Mom's apartment, I had Polly just sweep all of the papers on her desk and around - mail and statements and stuff into a box and also move Mom's 4 drawer file cabinet in toto into the storage unit.  So, today's task was to go through all the stuff and see what was critical.  I did find the car stuff - title and other stuff she'll need to sell it or give it to my brother.  And I found her Christmas card file which she wanted.  And I got really hot and sweaty and dirty.

Then we did more closet work - added way more to the donation pile and trash and moved everything important down to where she could reach it.  Tonight she said she wanted to do the dresser drawers, too.  So that will be tomorrow or Friday.

Her computer is still semi screwed up.  My brother, bless him, suggested we test the VNC connection to make sure that when I get home I can get on to her computer.  Well, no, in fact, I cannot and I could not get it to work at all.  And it is taking for freakin' ever to reboot and he and I agree that it's time to rebuild the harddrive.  It's running Windows2K which was installed via an upgrade CD and I don't even remember what we upgraded her from - probably Win 98.  I'm afraid to do a reinstall of Windows2K with only an upgrade CD.  Plus, she really needs XP. We've always hesitated to upgrade her to XP because she was so comfortable with the way it ran.  But if I had given it half a thought, I would have realized that now would be an excellent time to switch her over.  If I had brought a copy of XP.  No way I'm paying retail so my brother gets the chore over Christmas.  I'll send her a copy of XP and he can do her then.

For the month I've put on GoToMYPC which I just hate with a passion and is way way too expensive but it does work and I gotta have something and it's only for a month.  I put it on and then fired up the mini running off Treo as a modem and bam... her desktop was on my mini's screen.

And speaking of running Treo as a modem, you know... it works pretty darned well.  It seems way faster than dialup and sure his handy.

We also got her the rest of her pictures hung and I got some of that putty sticky stuff to fix the crocked with and so now everything is hung and hung straight... (resiste the temptation, ok? you are better than that...)

Tonight we went to Sonic for dinner and had chili, cheese and frito wraps with chocoolate milkshakes.  She enjoyed the outing and we both LOVED the food.

And now I'm going to read the morning paper and probably fall fast asleep.

Oh I did read that LAX got cancelled.  It sucked but I was getting used to it.

And the Republican guy beat the Democratic woman in the Washington state governor's race - by 42 votes.  Amazing.

I did get some more pictures of 'the home' today.  It is a very very lovely place.
