Yesterday I ventured down to the storage area to try and see if I could be in there long enough to retrieve some stuff and still breathe. And no coughing fit! Plus, I had totally forgotten that I had stashed some nice boxes down there. Some are big blanket boxes which will be perfect for clothes and some are plastic milk crates which will work nicely for other stuff. Excellent find.

Plus, a couple of years ago I did a major haul out of a lot of the stuff that is there and I had forgotten. So it is not as crammed as I remembered - my wooden tennis racket is gone. Whew. I can do without that pressure.

At some point - sooner, I hope than later - the painters or the carpet people - whoever comes first, will dictate that it's time for Sheri to get rid of all this furniture. So I need to get every drawer and every cupboard emptied. I've done a lot but today, I think it's time to get organized.

I plan to start at the front door and figure out what is going where and empty every drawer and closed shelf. And work my way to the living room...

Starting... now!

Every drawer is empty. Every single one. Every cupboard is empty. Every single one. There is stuff still out on some shelves but not much and it can all be swept into boxes quickly.

Oh, wait, I lied about the drawers - I have 2 with clothes in them - the clothes I wear every day.

I packed up all my sewing stuff and all my china teacups and all my spare sheets and towels. Oh and I did the laundry and I changed the sheets on the bed. And I put all the empty boxes in one place. And I found a table to put the TV on for when they cart out its current home.

And... you can add to that list of cords and plug thingies - I also have a nice supply of various light bulbs and batteries. I am a hoarder. There's no two ways about it.

But now I am a tired hoarder and I'm going to rest a bit. CBS Sunday Morning is calling me.

There is something in the air down in the storage area. And it's still there.

Best I can recall, I did head down there after writing that entry at 8:48. I collected boxes. It took two trips to get all I wanted out into the hallway. So maybe I was in the room with the storage cages for 5 minutes. 3 hours later it hit me. It felt like I needed to get fresh air and there wasn't any. I coughed with every breath for a good 5 minutes. I have no idea what asthma is like but this felt like I always assumed asthma did. Very strange and very not fun.

Good thing I don't need to get into that storage area very often. Ugh.

One of the things I did today was clean out my tool box. The first week in my new apartment after I graduated from college, I got two packages on the same day - one from North Carolina (where Daddy was) and one from Oklahoma where my Uncle Ray was (Daddy's sister's husband).

Daddy sent me a red toolbox loaded with tools and nails and screws and handy stuff. Uncle Ray sent me a small hand saw.

The message - one that was not assumed in 1971 - was that it was OK if I didn't want to get married. I had the tools to make it on my own. I'll never forget how wonderful that felt at the time. Most of my friends at the time did not ever hear that message. I was so so so very lucky and I had the toolbox and saw to prove it.

Both have traveled with me from apartment to apartment from house to house from state to state. Daddy and Uncle Ray are both piddling around in heavenly workshops.

Their gifts make me smile every time I see them and today they are nice and tidied up ready for another 30+ years of service.
