Dec. 23rd, 2005

I had thought this was going to be a slow day... just me, putzing around here doing a little work but mainly just entertaining myself.  Au contraire.

Major work waltzed in about mid-morning and I've been pounding ever since.

I have two friends that I hear from at Christmas who do not have email access.  So we have a routine.  They send a card. I write a letter.  Wait 12 months:  lather, rinse, repeat.  I got a card today from one of  them (I heard from the other, and wrote the annual letter a week or so ago) today.  I worked with Jean in the late 70's at a performing arts center in Charlotte.  I have not seen her since 1981 but every year, without fail, I get a card with a note.

This year's note starts off describing 2005 as not so good a year since she had a 'little bit of breast cancer' and her ex husband, with whom she was still very good friends, died. But, otherwise, things are good she says and goes on to tell me her grandchildren are teenagers.  Ya gotta love that kind of attitude.  Although, since she is my age, I could have done without hearing how old her grandchildren are getting!

A troop of 8 guys came in here today to assess water damage and talk fixing... It has stopped raining inside which I think is just excellent.  My carpet is wet by the door and the wall is soaked.  That valance that Sheri (the designer) didn't want to do and so we finally ended up with something I've never liked, is ripping out of the soaking wall so it's going to just come down.  They said that the carpet will dry with no harm and they will have to cut into the wall to get it dry. But they will fix.  And I said fine.  I'm not worried.  I probably should be, but I'm not.

It is pouring outside - pouring like it rarely does here - pouring like an East coast rain.  I am happy that it is not pouring inside.

Do you think if I got Betty and Jake watches that they would quit thinking that anytime after 2 p.m. is fair for dinner begging to begin even though there is not a chance in hell that dinner will be served before 5?

It is clear that I have nothing brilliant to say.  Clear to me anyway.  Plus Jake has forgotten that he has a spot that is not in front of my monitor.
