Day 145 - 2

Nice, regular day...  15 minutes on the treadmill and 15 minutes on the rowing machine.

The place was full of regulars.  The other old fat lady still won't say eye hi.  But my neighbor who's name I do not know always gives me a big wave and hi whenever she beats me in.  And she was there today stepping away.

It's cloudy out and almost a little cool.  So much better than sun and hot.  I'm grateful.

Star time.

If one or two people are just piling it on me - work wise, I get all stressed.  But when more than two people start going at it, I'm a big chill pill.  Take a number... your crisis doesn't even make my morning top 10.

One of my favorite clients (and one of the ones with a crisis) called me this morning and with the aid of caller ID, I answered "Crisis Hotline, How May We Help You Today?"  She cracked right up.

Then I got a teensy window of opportunity and made a mad dash to the grocery store and library where my stuff was just almost over due.  Now I'm back having a liverwurst sandwich.  And chips.  Waffles with Ridges.

I think spam is the new hemlines..... Stock goes down, amount of spam goes up and Google's usually extraordinarily success spam filter is having a real hard time with the new stuff.

Because of the way my laptop wireless is configured, when I reboot the DSL modem, the laptop breaks connections and tries to get on it.  Yes, I could reconfiogure the laptop but instead I'm using this as an excuse not to wear out the modem by restarting it.

About a year ago, I went from the medium fast DSL offering at Qwest to the fastest offering.  At the time, I did not notice that much speed difference.  The Clearwire is about the same rate as just under the medium fast Qwest level and all day long as I try to do the same stuff I do all the time and now I'm hitting delays, I've said to myself "Oh, now I remember..."

Before I got back to work, I should note that the Mariners play in Baltimore tonight which means the game is at 4 p.m. my time.  I love living on the west coast.  4 p.m. is a perfect ballgame starting time for me.  Thanks.

I finally got to a place about 7 pm where I knew if I tried to do anything else I would Fuck It Up.  So I quit.  Tomorrow is another day and, hopefully, one at a faster speed.  I did finally realize this afternoon that I was RAS in through the most crowded VPN tunnel they have.  Doh.  Switched to another one and things got instantly better.

For work, I deal with DSL speed that is impaired by the fact that I have to be tunneled into the corporate network.  Most of the time, honestly, it's pretty invisible.  When I have to upload giant stuff - which isn't that often - I feel the slowness but the rest of the time, it's fine.  This little Clearwire experiment has made me very grateful.   Oh and I got email from Clearwire today that my now 5 day old trouble ticket had been resolved.  In fact, I got to emails about it. Both contained links that were not accessible (at least by me).

The Mariners are doing very nicely so far.  Thank you, Baltimore.  And... oddly... while it is not hot hot hot here, it is oddly humid.  I'm thinking Baltimore is leaking through my TV.

I have a two hour conference call tomorrow morning.  At least it's on a project that is interesting and with a client I really like, respect and admire.  Some days - even the days when I would trade my first born for some breathing room, I love my job.  I really do.  I am so lucky.
