Work is done for the week! Yahoo!

I think my new router is not so happy. I'm getting horrible response times. I can take this laptop and plug it into the modem and get 30-40 mbps. I can then plug in the router, plug this laptop into the router and get 2-6 mbps. I'm trying now to identify all devices with IP and mac addresses. Then I might start unplugging and checking and adding back in one at a time to see if it's a traffic issue or one device is causing a problem.
---
Just now I had yet another issue with this laptop. Yesterday at one point I rebooted and it came back up creating a new user account. WTF? I did a restore and got me back. Then this afternoon I got a message about a duplicate IP address and when I plugged in an ethernet cable, I got the blue screen of death. When it came back, again, creating a new user. Another restore and I'm back but now Chrome won't work. I had to uninstall and reinstall Chrome to get it work work.
And now, the internet speed is sometimes ok and sometimes not but still the best right after a router reboot.
My compute karma is smelly today. But, happily, I can leave it alone until tomorrow. I don't even have anything planned for tomorrow so I can do network poking without having to worry about work or anything else.
---
Tonight is blackout night. Seattle City Light is turning off our electricity at 9:30 p.m. They say it will be back at 6 a.m. Wonder if I can sleep in dead quiet? I have two battery operated clocks - one is over the fireplace but one is an old timey alarm clock. If they actually hold off until 10, I won't even miss any TiVo'd shows.

Bear time.
