Does 1st gen iPad still require iTunes on a computer?
My neighbor wants to buy her husband a used 1st gen iPad. Back in the olden days, you had to hook the iPad up to a computer initially and for every update. I think now all updates can be done over the air. But what about the initial one? Does it still require computer hookup (and so iTunes installed on computer)?

Killing time

This morning machupicchu is joining me for breakfast and he wanted to go later so I'm up and ready but still have an hour before I pick him up so I'm just listening to the radio and piddling around.

After breakfast we're going to come back here and watch Game Change.

Plans after include calling Logitech's tech support to find out why their media server won't recognize their radio. I'm sure it will start with 'is the radio plugged in?' I'm not looking forward to it but I really would like to be able to use the service.

I think the rest of the day will be bear knitting and TV watching. My house is a mess of stuff stacked up and it's making me nuts but there's really nothing to be done about it until the rest of the project is finished.

I was planning the cabling of the new install yesterday and realized that I needed yet more (different links) CAT5 cable. I have a ton but most is way too long for what I need now. Finally it dawned on me that as cheap as cable is, it is still cheaper for me to get a crimper and end bits and just cut up what I already have to the lengths I need. So I ordered them rather than new cable. Thank you, Amazon.

Ok, I think I'll get up and get organized.

I just had a great 'chat' with Yolanda on the Apple site... She said that some refurbished iPads come with iOS5 and don't need to be attached to a computer to initialize. But some do. Their site does not list which do and which don't.
BUT, my neighbor can take his new refurbished iPad to the Apple store and they will set it up for him him, update to iOS 5 and he can get a 30 minutes Personal session where they will show him how to use it.
Sounds perfect for him. Yeah.
