Random Tuesday
Mar. 12th, 2013 09:18 amI really need to take down the curtains in this bedroom and iron them and put them back up. They are a set of sheers over a set of plain, white bedsheets. The last time I washed them, I got lazy and figured they'd hang the wrinkles out eventually. Not happening. But... I do have a little hand steamer... hmmmm
They are closet curtains instead of closet doors. No one sees them really except me but they bug me!
So that's on the list today. My handy(wo)man who agreed to replace the bathroom and kitchen faucets has kind of fallen off the radar and I'm pretty disappointed. I sent her a note last week asking her to put them on the schedule. I didn't hear anything so I sent her another note and got one back saying she was behind in her calendaring and would let me know that night. That was Friday. This is Tuesday and no word. I just sent one more note. If she does not make the appointment this time, I'll either find someone else or send the faucets back (I got them on Amazon).
I have a swim class at noon.
And that's all on the slate right now... but it's early.

up and down
Mar. 12th, 2013 01:52 pmI did finally hear from the handy(wo)man who was appropriately apologetic and Kim will be here on Monday at 10 to fix me up!
Swim class was a bomb. None of the regulars were there (I knew they wouldn't be) and Dave (the sub) taught the class. Taught is, in no way, an accurate verb. He stood on the side of the pool and yelled unintelligible sounds. As one of the other people there noted, he 'thought he's teaching but he's really just annoying'.
Oh well, I got a good 30 minutes in - good enough.
I am trying out some new stuff. Vaseline is making this new spray moisturizer. It's expensive but damn is that stuff good. I can even spray it over my shoulder and get my back which, before this, just itched like mad all winter long.
The daily baseball game starts at 1 today instead of noon since we changed to daylight savings time and Arizona didn't. I'm ready for the regular season to start.

washing that man right out of my hair
Mar. 12th, 2013 08:54 pmWhen I was a teenager, hair washing happened once a week. Before the dating years, it was washed on Saturday night so it would be clean and pretty for Jesus on Sunday. (Although, personally, Jesus never even mentioned noticing...)
The running theory was that washing it more than weekly would ruin it. My Mom's theory was that washing it more than once a week was a waste of shampoo. Waste not, want not. Either way, once a week was the rule.
The movie South Pacific came out when I was about 10ish and I was besotted (love that word) by it. My Mom had seen it on Broadway with Peter Pan (Mary Martin) and had told me that for the run of the show, Mary Martin washed her hair every single night while she was on stage.
I was just amazed by this. I had seen Mary Martin and I knew her hair wasn't ruined. I was so confused.
Tonight I watched a PBS special about Oscar Hammerstein and they showed a clip of Mary Martin from South Pacific and all I could think of was how clean her hair looked.
My brain is just for fun these days.
