This morning's swim was kind of weird. Yesterday, every lap felt swift and productive. Today, a lot of the laps felt like swimming through mud. Weird. But, in the end, I actually did my 2,000 yards in less than an hour again. Now that I'm wearing a cap, I'm experimenting with different earbuds and today I discovered that the ones that sound the best are now possible because the cap keeps them in my ears. Nice. They were mostly comfortable but I have an idea to work on today that might even improve that.
And... turns out that designs drawn on silicone with sharpies don't last more than a swim or two... sigh. I'm going to make Montrel's cap out of a latex one. It won't be as nice a cap but the design will stay on.
My brother has his November newsletter ready for editing and formatting so that's on the docket for this morning.
Zoey had developed a waddle. A loose pouch of skin/tummy hanging near her hind quarters. She is no longer the tiny cat I brought home but I don't think she's ready for a weight watching diet yet either.

Someone asked me about the exact goggles I settled on. I think I may have gotten the name wrong before.
The ones I got and now use every day and are very happy with are Aqua Sphere Kayene. They are the most comfortable. Getting them set right the first time is a bit fiddly but minor tweaks after are easy peasy. The first 5 or 6 uses, they perfectly clear with no fog. Now, they are clear for the first 15 mins or so - then I lick the inside of the lens thoroughly and put them back on and I do not have to touch them again. The remaining 45 mins are perfect.

Affordable care
Oct. 7th, 2013 04:16 pmI went to the Washington state affordable care exchange website today and opened an account. It was not particularly easy but it was way better than most other websites built and maintained by governments. I had zero problem with the response time. There were about a bascillion form pages to fill out but I did it and finally got to the Select Your Plan page...
The kicker for me turns out to be my doctor! There were only 3 plans that let me have him in network. And they were actually the same plan, just the various levels - gold, silver and the other one. The cheapest of these is double what I'm paying now.
I only need 2 months worth of coverage so it's really not a big deal. My COBRA runs out at the end of January and Medicare kicks in on my birthday, March 28. And the big option that is in my back pocket is to go back to work for my ex employer for a minute and kick the COBRA back in. He offered and I'm guessing the offer still stands.
On Monday I have a date with an insurance adviser who works with the Polyclinic which is where my doctor is. The adviser is going to help me with medicare questions and with this 2 month gap. Assuming he does not have a better deal that re-COBRAing for 2 months, I'll contact my ex-employer next week. There's no reason why we can restart that COBRA now - it's good for 18 months so I can just use it until the end of March and quit.
I have a lot of options - some are pretty pricey but I have options and I can afford them and I am very lucky. Plus I have excellent timing. Plenty of time to plan and decide.
