I booked the return flights I did because the ones later in the day were not non-stop for either of us.  My brother's flight was at 8:30. We are both of the get there earlier than later ilk so we left the hotel at 6 am.  The doorman, the cab driver and the guy who checked my brother's bags all told us that we made it about 30 minutes ahead of the pandemonium that is promised today as CES begins the last day.

We had a lovely breakfast at the airport and then he went on to his flight.  Mine is not until 9:30 so I've been here watching the crowd grow.  We will both be home with some hours left in the day.  Nice.

We had a magnificent dinner last night - this was our appetizer.

It's been a great and wonderful trip. Just the right amount of everything. I am tired, my clothes are dirty, my feet hurt - even though I did precious little walking - I miss Zoey and I'm ready to be home.

I have often found that travel either solidifies my desire to move on to a different life or be far more satisfied in the one one I have.  This time - as it has in recent years - it's the latter. I enjoyed the break but I want to get back to the real me.

And, I am ready to get back in the pool.  Tomorrow.  8:30 am

Zoey has now covered me with cat hair.  She's glad I'm home.  The house cleaner came while I was gone so everything is in order.  Nice.  The mail held no  big surprises and mainly junk.

I'm nicely tired and winding down.  I managed to not collect any disgusting blood bruises while I was there but, sure enough, when I tried to open the back door to my building, it hit the back of my hand and BAM - giant dark purple splotch right there.  Oh well.

It's not at all cold here which is kind of nice.

Tonight I will catch up on some TiVo and knit a bit before, probably, going to bed really early.  Right now I'm going to empty my suitcase into the dirty clothes hamper.

I just got the hotel/restaurant bill.  The entire trip for both of us, hotel, elegant meals, drinks, airfare, scooter and misc (cabs, incidentals) came out to $3,800.  We could have done it for a whole lot less but I'm sure glad we didn't. My brother enjoyed and appreciated all the luxury and grandeur as much as I did.  And, my estimate which is the cash I set aside for it, was $4,000.  So, we're all good!

When I was a teenager, my parents took us on The Big Family Trip.  We'd actually never gone anywhere as a family except when a grandparent or other relative was at the end of the road.  This time we had family on the agenda but the big ticket item was Europe.  We took one of the last ocean liner crossings from New York City to Bremerhaven, Germany.  The ship was old school.  Really old school. All meals were formal affairs both in dress, demeanor and cuisine.  We loved it but we were kids and enough was enough.

By the time the ship docked, my brother, sister and I would have taken out anyone who stood between us and a PB&J sandwich.

This week I have eaten more and more elegantly than I have in a long time.  One night we had a 7 course tasting menu that was full of amazing wonders.  Last night I discovered the delight of 'crispy chick peas' along with other culinary thrills.  And it was great.

But, tonight, for dinner, I had pre-made mashed potatoes that I threw some nearly moldy cheese into and a skinny weird kind of beef and some applesauce.  It is very nice to be home.
