Last night I went to our condo's home owners association meeting. It was interesting.
My neighbor Ann was there. She was bored before but I think since her husband died, she's kicked it up to a new level. I'm sorry for her and hope she finds her way sooner than later. She no longer drops in here whenever she wants - or even at all. She can't go two sentences without smearing populations - people for whom English is not their first language, people with accents, people who are of a different color or race or who practice non-protestant Christian religion. My pointing out how offensive this is to hear did nothing to curtail it. So I curtailed the visiting. We got in a small chat last night. Fortunately, the meeting started before I had to hear her latest slur.
The new building manager does not seem to be getting any less annoying. Seems like there should be a statute of limitations on how long he can blame his own short commings on the former manager. Also, he seems to have ear/mouth issues. He has to answer before the end of the question and can't seem to listen to anyone ... because he has to talk. I give him a year or less before he is gone.
The majority of board members, on the other hand, seem to be way sharper than usual. There's one that's a little loose in the screws department but we are extremely lucky to have the rest of them in leadership positions.
The air conditioner that I bought last Spring bragged about being energy efficient on the outside of the box. I did not believe it. But I was wrong. My electric bills - compared to last Summer - are way lower. Like 30% and the rates per are higher. Wow. Impressive. And, I have to say that the house is more consistently cooler and a lot quieter. Soooo glad I pulled that trigger. The 10 day forecast shows 0 relief from hot sun with no clouds. If you need me, I'll be in my cool house or in the pool!
Today is swim at 11. And baseball at 4.

I have discovered (again, anew?) that if I don't eat lunch, I eat all day long until I am asleep. Everytime I get up, I shove something into my mouth. So, I have been working making sure I eat lunch and before 1 pm. Yesterday was a total fail - partially because the home owners meeting was at 6 and not over until 7:30. I did not want to cook something and eat at 8 so I just continued the nibbling that I'd started earlier in the day. Not good.
Last time I was a Costco I got some sandwich rolls and then stopped, on the way home at KFC and got chicken fingers. 2 chicken fingers in these rolls with a little mayo and a Diet Dr. Pepper turns out to be a Proper Lunch for me. So today I went back, after my swim, and got 6. Lunch for 3 days. And by that time, I'll be sick of them and ready for something else.
There's a move afoot to turn an old Federal building not far from here into a school. A downtown school for kids. And every time I hear about it, I cringe. To me a school means more families and more strollers and more family-friendly (read boring and/or loud) things and far fewer adult only, interesting things. We have tons and tons of suburbs. They have schools. They have boring stuff. They have family-friendly shit. Why in gods name do families want to take over the only sane neighborhood we have???? Hopefully, it won't fly - the school thing.
My CPA called today. Last March, we discovered a deduction we did not make the year before - for the Health Savings Account contributions. He asked if I wanted to file an amended return and I said sure - if his fees would be less than any refund I got, I'd be interested. And then I heard nothing and figured that he looked into it and the net was less than the cost.
Wrong. He did the return. $400 refund for me. His bill is $110. I win.
It's not fun outside but it is wonderfully cool in here. I am ohhh so grateful.

I rotate 2 swim suits. Each is a couple of years old but, considering the time they spend in chlorine, they have held up pretty well. Before I found this brand - Krinkle - I rarely had a suit last me more than a few months before some part blew, making wearing it to swim too embarrassing. Krinkles last but they aren't cheap. Usually, on sale, they are $60 for the fat girl sizes.
Both of my suits, however, are showing signs of exhaustion. I noticed this morning that the stitching on the one that is in the best shape is now coming out of the top. I can repair but only for so long.
Today I went online to me two favorite swimsuit sites - swimoutlet.com and swimandsweat.com to check prices, colors, sizes, availability... Plan was to make notes of what I want and current prices and then keep an eye out for sales.
But, turns out swimoutlet had the exact suit I wanted reduced by $20! Ok by me. The did not have my exact color choices but I managed to find two different colors I like and so I bought 2 new swim suits!! And new goggles with FREE 2 DAY SHIPPING and no sales tax. Under $100 total.
Major score.
