I'm now comfortably ensconced in the Mercedes waiting room. Coffee, wifi, comfy chair. I could use a muffin. I forgot that the only food stuffs they have are candy. Oh well. Kind of Louis CK issue, I realize.
I'm trying out my new travel scheme. No laptop. I no longer have a little one and hauling around a big one seems so silly. I stole an old bluetooth keyboard out of a fancy tablet case for a tablet I no longer have. It weighs a little more than a piece of paper, is thinner than a padded envelope and is about the same height and width of my Fire tablet. Oh and has a battery that lasts forever. It's not anything I want to type the great American novel on but it works great for this.
I had another night of not good sleep. I was hot and not comfortable. I think I'm going back to running the air conditioner at night. On the upside, jumping into the pool wipes out the crud instantly from a hot uncomfortable sleep. I was slower this morning than usual. It took me a little more than an hour to do my mile but it was a good hour.
The baby corner lady sent an email this morning. She will pick up the latest bears on Monday. By then, I should have about 100 for her.
I have no idea how long this will take but I've got plenty to keep me entertained.

Back in my smoking days, whenever I was waiting for something like a bus or someone to show up, I'd light up a cigarette. It's been a while since I've missed smoking but I sure do right now. I've played games and read my book and walked around and then done all that again, twice.
I got here at 9:15. It's 1:15 and I'm ready to get the fuck out of here. They actually finished with my car 30 minutes ago. I saw it go into the car wash. I have no clue what the hold up is now. A guy came out about an hour ago to tell me my front wheels need replacing but they only have one wheel in stock. So they have to order and I have to come back. Oh joy.
---
Happy to say that starting a journal entry has the same effect as lighting up a cigarette only it doesn't hurt my breathing and it's way cheaper. I finally got sprung!!
And, in fairness, they didn't just wash the car, they very nearly detailed it. I bruised my elbow when I went to stick it out the window only to discover that it was rolled up! I am clearly not used to clean car windows.
The 'cheap' or as the service guy put it, the 'minor' service that is called for this year cost me just under $500. Next year is going to cost me major body parts. And this year's little wheel situation will cost me another $750 next week. Turns out what they were talking about was actual crimping of the wheels themselves. I can see it - both front wheels. It looks like I hit something. I sure don't remember doing it but clearly I did. Cheaper than a crumpled front or back end or other damage I could have done but still. Lots of other more fun things I could have done with that $$.
By the time I got released, I was starved so McDonalds got the nod. Good burger. And now I think I will live.
Next year, I hope to hell I remember today and make plans to NOT spend the day there.
My soundbar is here so I think that I'll see how 'easy' that really is to install.

Well, that's a pleasant surprise!
Aug. 22nd, 2014 02:55 pmLast year sometime, I bought a very simple (subwoofer built in) sound bar for my TV. I spent two days fucking with it trying to get it to work. Total Fail. I sent it back to Amazon.
Today's sound bar - again simple, subwoofer built in, hooked up successfully the first time easy peasy no problemo!
Weird. It looks fine and it works fine and Harmony is fine controlling it and the TiVo remote now controls it as well. This is way too much success for me to handle.
The sound does not sound that much better but I'm listening now to something that normally I wouldn't have that much trouble making out the words anyway. I think I'll hold off tossing out the boxes just in case.
Further testing... I just started watching an episode of House Hunters and discovered, in minutes, that I no longer needed to read the closed caption I keep turned on in order to understand what they are saying!!! WIN!!!

What a strange day
Aug. 22nd, 2014 09:24 pmStrange compared to my other days, I mean. I realized tonight that I was not sleepy all day... for a change. But, then, I really didn't have time to be either. There could be key in there somewhere.
I redid my TiVo/TV/soundbar set up. And then my remotes got unpaired and so I had to redo them. Now, the soundbar sounds way better than before and it sounded good before. I think I would describe the sound before as muddy compared to the sound I get now. It's not twice as good but maybe half again which is a good enough boost for me. And my harmony remote is also WAY happier with its repairing. so Whew.
I did most of this while listening/watching the Mariners play the Red Sox. A lot of the game was 0-0 and then the Red Sox got 3 runs and we went into the 9th inning where we finally wore them down and won 5-3. Plus, other teams that won/lost tonight moved us up the ladder. This has been a great baseball season. It could get better but what it has been has been great.
The Seahawks are playing tonight. Not a regulation game but enough for the loud drunks to participate. So between that and the hot night last night, I have closed the door to the outside and turned the air conditioner back on.
I think tonight is going to be a good sleep.
