Some roads were still blocked this morning but only because they hadn't yet removed all the barriers. I got to the pool fairly easily. Coming home was a bit trickier but, hopefully, it will all be cleared by the next time I go out.
For some reason there were no school crossing guards out this morning in front of the middle school and I watched 2 girls very nearly get taken out by a guy who was not looking and going way too fast. It did appear as if it scared the shit out of him which it sure should have.
My swim was wonderful. It felt like it had been days since I was in the water. I swam good and hard and even did sprints. I was rewarded by the prettiest human ever in the lane next to me. He was tall, chocolate brown, bald head with the tiniest blue and purple paisely speedo. And he was an excellent swimmer. My two favorite lifeguards were on duty and they told me he was visiting from California. A one time swim is $6 (cash only in the early mornings). He only had $5. Sheila said she told him to go ahead. We all agreed, we would have paid him to swim for us!
I love my Kindle Fire HDX tablet. It is not perfect because it does not have the Google Play Store. It's possible with several unnatural acts to get it loaded in but I'm not interested in doing it that way. I have a Nexus 7 tablet I can use for that. It does not have nearly the performance of the Fire, but it does ok. Anyway, I've always been sorry that I got the wifi only Fire. Last night I realized that wifi only Fires are brining in good money used. So I ordered the data one and I'll sell the wifi one. Nice. A data Fire in a case with a Bluetooth keyboard - along with my phone - is really all the computing power I need on short trips from home (like two days in Vancouver).
Today is Clean Out The Closet From Hell day. In my bedroom, I have 3 smallish closets. I have one for haning clothes, one for folded clothes and one that has, over the years, become the catchall for every freakinthing in the house. That one is the subject of today's Project. It's been gnawing at me for a while and it's the last bit of organizing left in the house. There are several things in there that i want and can't find so today is the day that it all gets pulled out, culled, trashed, donated and organized.
And I plan to wander up the block at 5 to check out the party at the new sewing store and get a good look at their full inventory. But, I won't stay long as the baseball game is in Texas and so starts at 5.

Break time

I totally get now, why I have put this project off for so long. It's a bear.
The junk showing in this photo is about half of what is in there. There is a large, impossible to get to, section tucked off the right there.
Once I pulled everything out, it became clear that 40% of the stuff is Goodwill, 40% is trash and 20% needs to go back in.
A good half of the 20% is stuff to put stuff in! I am a hoarder with a purpose.
Ok, I'm going back in now... The goal is to get everything at least sorted into one of the two piles or back in the closet by lunch.
It should go without saying that Zoey thinks this is Christmas and her birthday all rolled into one joyus morning.
done ... a little bit
Sep. 5th, 2014 12:06 pmMy bed is clear. The closet is done. There is a giant pile for Goodwill in the hallway next to two bags o' trash. There is a small pile of stuff that needs to go other places.
And I am a massive pile of dirt and sweat and starving.

I did NOT find the thing I was looking for but I did find all kinds of shit that I didn't know I had... 1 pair of navy blue crocks, 4 pillows (1 down, 1 memory foam and 2 regulars), and 2 pair of those slippers I got from Sears about 10 years ago that I dearly love. I thought for sure I had used up all the ones I had. Finding 2 more pair is just a miracle!!! I'm saving them for next winter.
And this concludes the promise I made myself when I retired 2 years ago. I told myself that I would empty every nook and cranny of this house - every close, every drawer, every cabinet and evaluate, trash, donate and organize. Done. Soon it will be time to do the living room cabinets again but that's the easiest of all. Mainly now I know where shit is and there's room to easily put anything and everything in its rightful place. Hallefuckinglooyah.
Now I am going to have a chicken sandwich and take the rest of the afternoon off. Goodwill and the dumpster both will wait.

Done. really done.
Sep. 5th, 2014 02:58 pmIt was too hot to go to Goodwill today. I took the trash down and then the Goodwill stuff started bugging me. Tomorrow will be hotter than today. Then I thought that I could get a McDonald's milkshake on the way home.
So. I went down and got a cart from the garage and brought it up. I fill the thing to overflowing (I had to stop a couple of times to pick up crap) and rolled it down to the lobby. Then I went back the garage, down the stairs, moved the swim gear out and drove it round to the front. I loaded it up. There was hardly room for me! I took the cart back inside and to the garage and got back into the car ... and finally went to Goodwill.
And then got my milkshake. And my hallway is now tidy. As is everything else. I'm so glad I went ahead and got it all done,
---
And my brother's team got their webams fixed and back on line... whew!
