Monday Monday
Sep. 8th, 2014 09:20 amLast year, the week after Labor Day, nearly the entire lifeguard staff changed. This year, it looks like there will only be tweaks here and there. We have a new one on Monday and Wednesday mornings. We could use new ones on Tuesdays and Thursdays - here's hoping.
I did not swim as fast this morning as I did on Saturday and I'm not sure why. I did try out my new fins and it quickly pointed out to me how very inefficient my basic flutter kick is. Tomorrow when the receptionist is on duty, I will check the class schedule and see if I can find a good time/teacher. My list of shit I want to know about or more about is getting longer.
---
Nothing big on the hit parade here today. I'm going to change the sheets (actually, I only use the one fitted sheet so it should be change the sheet...) and do a load of laundry and flatten down some boxes to get ready for recycling. And then knitting and reading and really just enjoying the day. Tomorrow Anita comes to cook and Wednesday the house cleaner comes so today is mild and mellow and stuff-free.
It's mercifully cool out today. You can actually smell the cool and it's delicious.

- How can I kick more efficiently?
- How can I improve my basic stroke for more efficiency?
- How can I learn to breathe bilaterally?
- How can I fix my breast stroke to best use some new muscles?
- What's the best way to use fins? boards? crotch floats (I know that's not what they are called but it's what they should be called)

try/fail, try/fail, try/fail...

So I figure, depending on how I join them, I have about 1/4-1/3 of the hexagons finished. That is if I want to make a blanket for my bed. I decided this morning that maybe I should try joining a few and see what works.
3.5 hours of trial and oh so much error later, turns out... nothing.
Finally, I figured out that my connecting yarn is just too rough and stiff. I need smaller, silker. I know exactly the brand/type. I actually have some and probably enough in denim blue.
But, in my head, all along, I had this thing about black. I have imagined the finished deal as kind of a cross between a stained glass effect and a bunch of kaleidescopes popping out from black. So I really want black. Amazon actually carries exactly what I want so I ordered and put the rough, stiff black yarn in the Goodwill bin.
I'm still not settled on the actual joining stitch I will use. I need to kind of retry everything with the better yarn.
I just broke down the boxes to take the the recycling and, in the process, poked the back of my left hand. Now I have a large, very black, it-will-be-weeks-before-this-one-disappears blood bruise. And, I was doing so good. GRRRRRRR Old skin and fragile veins just sucks.
All this talk about wearables - watchings and fitness bracelets. My hands/arms would just turn purmantely black if I even thought seriously about putting one of those on.
So on the bright side, I'll save tons of money and lots of decision energy by just ignoring this whole stack o' gadgets.
