You hear about people who wait too long to get something medical checked and you think, how in the world could they have been so stupid? Or how in the world could they have lived with that discomfort/pain/inability to do something so long?
And then you get old and out of shape and every day brings another pain or problem that you now know from experience will either go away or are now part of just being old and out of shape. You could get in shape but... those life choices were cemeted years ago. And the old thing is, of course, irrevocable.
Lately, it's what I call my lung muscles. It feels like I've had a horrible cough for a while and I've coughed my muscles to sore. Only, no cough. Weird. It could be another componant of my COPD. Who the fuck knows. It's not horrible. Just uncomfortable. It does not seem to be adversely affecting my breathing and my ability to draw a deep breath - not my best skill on a good day, but doable - is the same.
Getting old is interesting. So far for me the pros and cons are equal. At some point the cons will take the lead. Every day until then is a plus.
Today and tomorrow are promising to be hotties. 82 today and 88 tomorrow. But then it drops. And, even now, the hot isn't as hot as it was in August. But I am ready for clouds.
I was thinking about going across the street to the new Josh Henderson restaurant that just opened for brunch but... they don't start serving until 10 and it's not yet 9 and I'm hungry and I have plenty of breakfast fixin's here in the house so I think I'm going to mange ici.
Then there's the baseball game and that's it for planning. So far.

Sorry, Goodwill
Sep. 14th, 2014 10:22 amAbout 2 and a half years ago, I bought an induction burner to try out. I feel in love with it. It sits on top of my glass top stove which I have, honestly, not used since I got the burner. If what I'm wanting to cook takes two burners, I find another way to do it. Chef Anita loves it, too. She uses the stove cause she needs more burners but her first choice is always the induction.
A couple of months ago, the buttons started to go. They are those dimpled kind - you know, just bumps if you run your fingers over them. But the bump part started cracking. So I duck taped them but the duck tape is kind of not working so well. Then, last week, I turned on the burner and it screamed at me. A horrible noise. It cooked, but it screamed so I figured it was time for a replacement.
There are a gazillion different ones on the market. I scoured. I compared. I studied. I finally found one that looked perfect and ordered it. When it came, I was delighted to find it was a bit smaller and lighter weight. I tossed the old one in the hamper I keep for Goodwill. I slapped on my sauce pan and heated up Anita's dinner and all was good.
Until this morning. I got out my small frying pan - induction approved and has worked prefectly on the old burner - and got E0. WTF? I had actualy tossed out the manual so I dug it out of the trash to discover that E0 is error code for pan not induction pan. Oh, yess, it is... I rebooted the burner and tried a couple more things and still E0.
I moved it to the counter and dug the old one out of the hamper. I turned it on - no screaming - and made a wonderful breakfast. Today, I will try some of the new masking tape that I got to recover the brasson the fireplace doors with.
Amazon can have the POS back. So so so glad I hadn't tossed out the boxes yet. It was on my list of stuff to do today.
For the record the old one is a Max Burton and the new one was a Duxtop. If/when I replace, I am going back to Max for sure.

Phoning Home
Sep. 14th, 2014 07:13 pmI reached for my phone to take a picture and it was missing. Not on the table. Not on the chair. Not next to me. Not in the kitchen. Not in the bedroom... I had it this morning and I haven't been anywhere all day nor has anyone been in here.
Android has this wonderful feature... I can ring (or wipe clean) my phone from any browser. So I rang... I heard it ringing and it sounded like it was right next to me. I played the old hot/cold game with it for a good minute and a half. Under my chair. The fucker was under my chair.
So... that's been my day. My pleurisy is the same. No better. No worse. It isn't causing a breathing problem even. It only hurts when I cought, sneeze, laugh or talk. I don't think it's going to hurt when I swim but if it does then we will take measures for sure. I have no fever, no sore throat, really no other symptoms at all. If I had regular lungs, I wouldn't really even think about it but my lungs haven't been regular in a decade.
Zoey has been spending most evenings in what I call her honey pot. For some reason I cannot define, it just tickles me no end when she burrows herself into that little thing and rules from her perch.

Tonight I'm watching the pilot of The Good Wife and then I'm going to watch True Detective. I never saw it the first time and didn't care enough to go look for it. Finally they are re-airing so I'll give it a go.
