I had a lovely sleep in my own bed with my own cat who is right here curled up between me and the computer watching me type.
I didn't do much of anything after I got home last night. Well, not true but it was so much this and that that it felt like not much. But, I did remember to check the prices on a couple of things I've wanted and found a Black Friday deal on one of them and scarfed it up.
Another deal from last week on backup waterproof earbuds for swimming, netted me a $30 mp3 swim program for free! It's two 30 minute coached sessions and then 25 stroke tips. I loaded them all onto my Shuffle to try out today if I can get to the pool, I'll give them a go.
I did not totally unpack but did manage to get a lot of stuff put away. My new little Windows computer arrived and it looks like it might just work for what I want. I didn't spend a lot of time with it but new toy, new tech, I have to at least open it.
Today is swimming and then back to Witness - the restaurant I've been going to for the past couple of weeks. Last week, I left a lovely tip for Megan the waitress and my Discover account tells me she got not one penny. I am very embarrassed. I let the restaurant know but I'm pretty sure she only works on Saturdays so I need to get back there today and make it right.
Then home to finish cleaning up and get ready for the Condo Internet installer at 1:15 pm.
It's not quite light out yet. It is snowing but I can't tell how much. Happily, there are four traffic cams near the pool so I can get a good idea of the roads when it gets light. The pool is on a hill that will get more snow than we will down here. It's very cool that I can see real time pictures of what's happening.

I doubt it will be enough to keep me from swimming. Hopefully it will be enough to keep the lane divas away.

My swim this morning was FABULOUS. I tried out the new earbuds and they are amazing. They go in nicely, stay in perfectly and give me sound AND keep water from collecting in my ear. Very cool. And I listened to the swim lady who was really interesting. She has a nice voice and there was encouraging musical beats in the background that really did affect my speed and she gave me tips all along. I think it's going to be a nice thing to have once a week or so.
Best of all the Saturday whackos were a no show! The pool wasn't nearly as crowded. The folks in my lane were considerate and polite and it was great.
Then onto the restaurant where I learned that Megan was out of town. So I could not pay her back for the tip that Discover didn't give her. I was annoyed because were it not for paying her, I would have skipped going out to brunch today and scheduled the installer earlier. But, then, I mellowed out and discovered that the music which was way too jazzy before had a new station... and was perfect. I asked the guy who brought me my breakfast about the music and he told me "Dream Lover" station on Pandora and he had picked it. I told him that should be the Saturday regular. Croque Toad which was great last time I had it was even better today.
Then onto the grocery store where I remembered 2 things that have been on my list forever and I keep forgetting and they had amazing looking (and I hope tasting) cole slaw.
Now I'm doing the Windows Update on the new computer. I figure it will be a year or two before it's finished. I did hook it up via ethernet so it will only take a year or two instead of a decade or two.
I need to call Amazon. My Kindle Voyage keeps needing to reset and it's getting tedius.
Zoey thinks it's pretty critical to be touching me a tall times. Just now she's perched on my knee. Trying to help me type.
The Condo Internet guy should be here in 45 mins.

A computing day...
Nov. 29th, 2014 05:55 pmThe Condo Internet installer showed up 15 minutes early and was just as nice as he could be. No excuses, no badmouthing competitors, no bitching about my outlets. Just a really nice, nice guy and efficient and tidy.
I showed him the outlet and he said it looked great. Then he said he needed another outlet - a bigger one probably in a closet. I had no clue. I took him to the front room where I had, long ago, painted over the phone outlet. But, he said 'what's behind that box'? It is a box I built and paint to cover/hide the old security system which was hidden in a closet but now that closet is my reading nook. He popped the box off and voila. There was an outlet that I swear I do not ever remember seeing. He twisted some wires. And in 10 minutes from the time he came in the door, he had me going at 100mbps. It was amazing.
He even offered to help hooking up my router! But, I declined. I wanted to do it my way myself. So I kissed him goodbye (no, I did not) and got to work. I have now gone through so many routers and setups that honestly, I could do it in my sleep. My usual SSID is Melmac in homage to Alf but I needed a different one to run parallel so I went with SDHQ. My 2.4 band is still suffering with what I now truly suspect is interference, probably from the neighbors, BUT, it is now down to a still pretty darned healthy 37mbps as opposed to the 2 that I get with Comcast.
Then I went around and changed the networks on the internet radios and then TiVo's and the webcam. I kind of fucked up the webcam because I wasn't thinking and had to factory reset it and start from scratch. But, again, I've fucked that up so many times that resetting and starting from scratch is kind of the norm.
The shades, the Roku, and the Fire TV all either require ethernet or work better with it. And they are all on the side of the room directly across from the Condo Internet modem... So I think, since my wireless is now good enough to work without the extender in the bedroom, I'll move it in here, and set it up over by the TV where I also have far more electrical outlets and plug those things right into it.
I spent some more time with the new Windows PC. I do not want to hook it into any Microsoft account which takes some work to avoid but I think I mostly got it done. For $200, it's a fine little machine. I will be moving the iTunes onto it and the Harmony remote setup and my swimming fit device when it gets here. What cloud stuff I need, I can use Google. I do not need it but I think it's going to be quite handy to have. Plus it's blue and pretty.
Dinner's been et and the kitchen has been cleaned. There will now be TV and knitting.
