Jun. 11th, 2015
Usually, I love the east coast baseball games. Baseball in the daytime is so much more convenient for me. But, today I outsmarted my own self. I did not focus on the rare Very Early Start (9 am) when I made my massage appointment for 10:45 with plans to get my swim in before hand. Oh well. I can catch highlights between and missing one game won't break the baseball bank. Besides, they won the last two games so there is no way they will win today.
My plan is to leave here at 9 which will probably be 8:45 and give me plenty of time for an hour's swim. Depending on pool population, I might even extend that some. Then on to the massage place which is only a couple of blocks from the pool. It's an uphill couple of blocks but I may walk it anyway. After the massage, going downhill will be fine. And I can keep my car in the cool parking garage so that it isn't an oven for the ride home.
It's cooled off considerably anyway. I woke up to pee about 1 am and turned off the air conditioner and opened the door. This morning, it's still lovely and cool and quiet without the a/c on. And it looks like we've got until Sunday to enjoy it. Nice.
Nothing else special going on. My latest audio book is Robert Dugoni's Bodily Harm. i had not read anything of his in a long time and now, a third into this one, I remember why. It's a legal thriller (good), set in Seattle with a lot of Seattle in the story (good) but it's chock full of sexist cliches that are really making my teeth itch. I'm going to try and finish it because the story line is otherwise interesting but I am, right now, making a mental block to mark this guy off my list of interesting authors. And, if it gets much worse, I will abandon. There are too many good books out there to waste reading time on an insulting one.

Some success - some failure
Jun. 11th, 2015 12:43 pmFor 50 minutes of my hour swim today, I was the only person in the pool. It was weird and wonderful. I did 72 laps in 55 minutes. This means it is not a 25 meter pool. It can't be. It has to be 25 yards. The people at the front desk have zero idea. One guy says definitively that it's 25 meters. One woman today told me it was 75 'somethings'. The other 3 at the front desk appeared to have no clue. I'm calling it 25 yards. And... also... declaring that it does not matter one single bit.
After my lovely swim, I went on to the massage place which was where some of the fail came in. My personality is the antithesis of massage place personalities. I know this and try to take with me some forgiving zen but, apparently, I didn't bring enough. The masseuse I drew today - Tina - was an interesting and oh so annoying combo of 50% defense and 50% condensention. And listening was NOT her strong suit. About 15 minutes in, I nearly bailed all together. She was killing me and when I suggested she pull back a bit, her response was that she was just getting started and wasn't really trying yet. So I said ok, then end. And then, turned out, she decided a 'much less effective' massage would be within her capabilities.
"Would you like to add on something for Tina?" "Er, ah, that will be a gigantic NFW." I did get the introductory price of $50 for an hour's massage which, after I threatened to leave, turned out to be not horrible. I feel better muscle wise and if I feel the same way tomorrow, then maybe I might go back again as long as I can get someone other than Tina to 'do me'.
The place is convenient. They are open 7 days a week with walk in options. They do have a number of different masseuses (masseusi?) So. maybe. one day.
And, yep, the Mariners went down in flames today. They were in the bottom of the 8th when I got out of the massage place.
On the way up side, it's not horribly hot. I have not had the air conditioner on today yet.
I think today might be an excellent day to reorganize my closet of folded clothes and maybe the hanging ones, too. There is not too much that needs to leave - Goodwill or trash, but a ton that needs to spend some quality time in purgatory and then probably Goodwill.

This is why...
Jun. 11th, 2015 05:58 pmAt 4:30 I was starving and in no mood to heat up the house or make a mess. So I grabbed my phone and some cash and took myself out to early happy hour dinner. I went across the street and up a half block to a place that opened late last year and somehow I had never investigated. Taylors Shellfish. It's an open, airy place with pleasing music at a volume you could enjoy and also eavesdrop on conversations if you like. I had an oyster po boy. I ate it at a roomy, comfortable table with a great view of both the restaurant and the passersby outside.
It was just perfect. I took a little bit o a circuitous route home. It's a lovely evening and a wonderful treat. I may have to make Taylor's Shellfish a weekly-ish treat.
It's a wonderful perk of living in the downtown core and why I love it.

If I could stand the thought of anyone ever touching me again, I'd seriously consider getting a massage to work out the sore that that woman kneaded into me today. My expectations were very different from what I got. Note to self: next time you think massage is the answer, reinvestigate the question.
