Social Security dropped my $$ a day early! Thanks, feds. And the bear lady is taking tomorrow off so the normal 1st Friday bear delivery will be Monday. Normall, I'm not a fan of holidays but July 4th has a lot going for it this year. Now I have a pool where I can swim on holidays and this year I noticed that traffic got a lot lighter earlier this week. Little benes. I'll take 'em.

Today, I'm off to said pool first.  Then I think I'll swing by the UPS store up the street from the pool. I had two boxes in the UPS OUT bin yesterday - returns to Amazon.  The UPS guy ignored them.  So I'll just deliver.

I think that's the only errand on my list.  I don't really have any shopping to do but I might just run out to somewhere later today to stretch my legs in air conditioned comfort. Or maybe not.

I think part of the problem with the heat is that looking out 10 days, there is pecious little relief. It's probably good that none of my apps look out any further than 10 days because probably it does not get any better much before September. And any time TV or radio is interupted for local anything, they spend 90% of that time bitching about the heat which does not make it better.

I am very grateful that the exercise I love involves no sweating and that even though it's loud and annoying and costing me an arm and a leg in electric bills and doesn't even cool the whole condo, I at least have an air conditioner

I give up

I have now, or rather, once again, abandoned my abandoning of the swimming iPod Shuffle. I gave it up because I so hate iTunes. I cannot make it work the way I think it should and I have no clue how it thinks I should work it. It's a bloody battle every time.

But, for swimming, there is nothing better than that silly little Shuffle. I have recently tried two. Charging both and getting music onto them was blessedly simple and easy peasy from my Chromebook. But... one of them is bulky and big(ish) and does not shuffle music and has a very finicky pause button. (Being able to have a quick convo with other swimmers is pretty critical and breaking the suction on your earbuds is not the way to go so having a pause button matters.) The second one has a great pause button and a shuffle option and broke completely after 2.05 swims. Sigh.

Using the iPod Shuffle is wonderful. It's fast, and responsive, tells me who's singing that song, has a great pause button and is small and easy. Getting music on and off of it is a major PIA.

iTunes wanted an update that required a reboot that required a hardware reboot... (and this is the case nearly every time). So it is 25-30 minutes between the time I sit down to update the Shuffle's content and the time the 5 minute operation is done. GRRRRRRR

Happily today I had my Shuffle with me so when the other player died, it just meant a quick swap. I finally figure out that I can use my Misfit Shine to tell me when I have done a mile. No more clock watching or lane counting! The shine is only a disc with lights around the perimeter. Mine is set for 1800 points. When I get to 1800 points all lights light up.

A mile, in the pool, is 2 lights before I sync it with my phone. So, when I get in the pool, there is usually 1 light. If I swim until there are 3 lights, I've done at least a mile. Then when I sync with my phone (which tells it I was swimming and not walking slowly down the street the whole time) the 3 lights turn into 8 or 9. When all 12 are lit, I've hit my goal of 1800.

But the main takeaway from this very confusing explanation is 3 lights means I've swum my mile. Cool.

Now I've had my iTunes fight, packaged up 3 returns to Amazon and taken them to the UPS store. I may have one more. The bluetooth transmitter I got originally does not turn on automatically or stay on. So I'm swapping out for one that does. But I don't want to send this one back until I'm sure the replacement works. The mail man is bringing the replacement and should be here any minute.

I really never paired well with people so I should not be surprised that I can't pair with technology either... Today's frustration.

My TV set up bluetooth transmitter from TV paired with bluetooth headset. When it works, it's glorious. But...

The first transmitter I tried had a sleep function. When it fell asleep, I had to manually hit the on button. Not what I wanted. I want to turn on the TV, turn on the headphones and get sound. I don't want to turn on a transmitter which should not be sleeping.

So. I got a transmitter which does not go to sleep. Fixed! Right? Not so fast... 1. The transmitter is a bitch to pair. And, I mean a bitch. 2. While it does, in fact, no sleep, when the headset is turned off or charging, the pairing is lost and 1. It is a fucking bitch to pair. It has great range, though so I'm sad to be sending it back.

Tomorrow Amazon will be delivering Transmitter #3 which promises to not sleep and pair easily and not lose pairing. But this time, my expectations are low... really low.

There's a restaurant/bar across the street that has really delicious hamburgers and fries and other tasty things. It's a loud place that caters to macho men in their 20's and their chicks... but those burgers are so good and the frites are just excellent. I've tried calling in an order and picking it up. They just aren't set up for that.

So tonight I tried walking over and sitting at the bar and ordering to go. The bartender got me water and my order and then went back to school or on vacation or something.

He finally came back and handed me a check and told me the food would be here soon. I got my $20 bill out and, sure enough, he came back with my food and took my $20 and then disappeared again. 2 more innings. I can see the cash register. He ain't at it.

The bill was $15.25. He finally comes back with 5 ones and 75 cents in coins. What a freakin optimist. He got the $.75 and I got the hint... they don't do old ladies or take out. Noted.
