Yesterday's new Echo caused a rearrangement of electronics that have been in place for years and years. I've been retired now for 3 years. The last decade or so before I retired, I had the radio alarm set for 5. When I retired, I set it for 6. I used it for the 3 days a week I needed to get to the pool by 6:30. But now even that is gone. Yesterday, I turned the alarm off and moved it to the fish room.

My Mi Band vibrates slightly now at 6:15 - easy to ignore, if I want. The new Echo sits on the nightstand. This morning, when I was ready, I just said 'Amazon, turn on KPLU' and I listened to the news in the dark for a bit. I think it's going to work great.

Having the one up high broadcasting to the whole place was ok but required my yelling at it. This way, I don't have to yell and don't have to have the volume up so high. Much nicer.

The Walgreens mail order website now shows my new inhaler prescription as costing me $3.60 instead of the $750.00 it was showing. Whew. On the other hand they keep showing me that I need to reorder an inhaler I no longer use and they doubled up an order for one of my other prescriptions. They're act tries but never really gets it right. Once the new inhaler ships - probably tomorrow - I'll call about the rest. I have learned that trying to fix multiple issues in one call rarely works.

Today I'm off to the pool even a little earlier than usual. When I get back from my swim, I'm going to strap on my walking shoes and stroll down to check out the waterfront. I want to be able to enjoy it before the sun/heat comes out.

I think I'll hit the road right now.

So while I was swimming today, I was thinking new couch. What would I do with the eggplant bean couch. Oh, wait! I can put it at the foot of the bed!! What do I do with the bench at the foot of the bed. This one took me a whole lotta laps and then I came up with it... Put it in front of the fireplace!

Ooops now there is a clear path to new couch which I do not want to buy yet... Oh and Plus. The store is in the same mall as Sears. I bought some shoes from Lands End which I am sure will need to be returned (they arrive today) to Sears.

Seriously, world, I need to hold off buying a new couch. Smart Cars don't get quarterly oil changes and stuff, just one checkup a year and depending on age and mileage, it might cost $300 or $1600.

When I first got my smart car, the dealership was run by this really nice company and one of the customer people was kind enough to send me a maintenance schedule for 6 years... In 2012, the schedule looked like this:

In my case the above translates to 10K=2012, 20K=2013, 30K=2014 and 40K=THIS YEAR. I'm guessing that $775 will be $1000 or more in 2015 dollars. (In addition to inflation, the dealership was sold to not friendly people who really like to find more critical costly things you must have). This happens in August/September. And must come before couch.

But even before that is my waterfront walk. Today did not turn out to be the cool, cloudy day I was hoping for but WTF, I'm mentally committed so I'll put on my sun hat and give it a shot.

Before the apocalypse, the  waterfront, on a week day morning, even in tourist season was a nice, flat, quiet stroll with the city on one side and the open waters of Elliot Bay on the other. There might be beautiful ships to see. About 5 blocks from my house is an elevator that takes you right up to Pike Place Market.

So today's experience was even more jarring than my low expectations prepared e for. I mean UGH. They did not stop working, they just built foot bridges across the construction. It is so loud and so horrible and so not COPD friendly.

This is taken from one of those foot bridges.

I stopped at Ivars which is an old Seattle staple and got some calamari for lunch. You had to shout your order to be heard and you had no way of hearing anything back. I cannot image how they are going to make enough money to compensate employees who sue them for hearing loss. And the fries were cold. But the iced tea was actually exceptionally good.

After lunch I walked up towards town to get away from the mess but most of it is under construction, too. I am so glad to be home.

On the up side... Both fitness bands are rewarding me for hitting my goal for the day. And I tried out the insoles that my doctor prescribed. When I first started out it felt like I was walking with a marble in my shoe but I quickly forgot all about them and my feet feel fine.

And... even walking through dust and in bright sun which was way hotter than they promised... I did not have to stop one single time to catch my breath. This is huge. Really huge.

It's just possible that walking through a half mile of dusty construction is not the smartest thing I have ever done for my lungs. I have now developed a honk-y sounding cough. buggers. I just downed a cough pill (anti, not pro) and I'm slurping water like crazy. The best thing for me to do for a cough is make it stop. Coughing makes coughing worse in my case.

So not coughing is my afternoon project.
