Today's swim was another hour of listening to the most fascinating book - Being Mortal. It's a perfect swim 'read' - the reader is a great one and the narrative is easy to grasp and pretty fascinating.
My swim buddy, Brodie's husband got her a waterproof MP3 player for Christmas and her kids loaded it with music for her and today was her first day giving it a test drive. She was amazed at how much fun it was to swim with entertainment. She's right.
After my swim, I hit Trader Joe's and then got coffee and then got my nails done. They had three new colors and I let the manicurist pick. I would never have chosen what she did but I really do like it.

My house cleaner came while I was gone and everything is sparkley. I wonder if I can keep it that way until Sunday when my brother gets here. Probably not.
The power was off in the front part of the house which was kind of curious. I flipped the breaker and all was fine. Her vacuum has blown the circuit a couple of times but only when the air conditioner or space heater were going and neither were on today. Weird but no harm, no foul.
My manicurist told me that I needed to get better at using hand lotion. Yes, Ma'mam. She's right. My skin is so dry and crackly, I need to swim in lotion but I should be able to at least keep my hands hydrated. I promised her I would do better.
While I was getting my nails done, there were 3 cop cars with lights flashing parked outside. We couldn't see what was happening but clearly something. It cleared up about about 15 minutes. When I got home I checked the West Seattle Blog twitter feed. You cannot fart in West Seattle without those folks knowing about it and reporting. Sure enough, it was an accidental alarm trip at the bank next door. Nice to know. The internet is so wonderful.
Time to make some dolls.

I forgot to get pizza!
Jan. 6th, 2016 03:08 pmIt just dawned on me that I totally forgot to get pizza. I almost always get it after I have my nails done. Since it does not open until 11, I'm usually back home long before then except on nail day. But, today I just forgot. Oh well. I have teriyaki from yesterday so no biggie.
I ordered a bundle of fabric remnants from an Etsy shop and they arrived today and they are amazing!! Turns out the Etsy person is from Seattle and named Sue - this tickles me. I sent her a link to my doll photos and she sent great fabrics.

Plus they are BIG remnants. There are at least 3 dolls in each one!

Back attack
Jan. 6th, 2016 05:06 pmEver since it got cold this year, I have been one giant itch. I have little places, like bug bite size, that itch off and on - one on my shoulder, one on my belly, one on my leg and then my back. All of a sudden my back will just itch all over. A really deep itch, the kind that if you scratch it, it itches even more.
I just had a massive back itch attack. I finally took my shirt off and slathered my back with itch relief cream and took and OTC allergy tablet. It's a little better. But this is just nuts. I should have asked my doctor about it when I was there a couple of weeks ago.
I know that I did not because I don't want anyone to say it's caused by the pool so if you want it to stop, quit swimming. But, I swam there for 4 months before the itching started but I'm still afraid that it might be the pool.
I toyed with various ways to work in a swim on the days when my brother was here but I honestly think that the smart money might be to just stop for a week and see how my skin feels. If it clears up and doesn't itch then I'll look at the pool as the culprit. It won't stop me from swimming there every day but it might help to know what's causing it and maybe get some more powerful antihistamine something or another.
Itching sucks.
