My brother is packing up his stuff. His pot (not pottery) is wrapped in plastic tucked in plastic bags rolled into a tight pipe in his aluminum thermos covered with bourbon ready for the road.

We're going to go to the 13 Coins across from the airport for brunch and then I'll drop him off and he'll go home.

Yesterday, we took a bus up to the University District and had breakfast and then toured the farmer's market and still have a ton of time to kill before the movie we wanted to see so we walked. 2.5 miles. It was fun. Then we saw The Long Short.

When we got out of the movie, it was pouring rain. I don't mean just raining hard, I mean the sky was dumping. I have never seen rain like that. It was fucking amazing. My brother had on Birkenstocks with socks and I had on Crocks with socks. We were not dressed for surfing. Plus, I had neglected to study how/where to get the bus home. It was a mess. I found and reserved a Car2Go but it was not close. But, we headed out anyway. Through sometimes ankle deep water. It was wild.

Finally we found a bus stop that looked like it might have buses going downtown but the app was saying the last two buses skipped that stop. Finally the bus that was on break pulled out and BAM, we spied the Car2Go so we got in it and came home and dried out.

He found a coat hook that needed resetting so he reglued that and whapped it in with a rubber mallet. And then we went out to dinner - Skillet Diner in Ballard. It was delicious.

And then home. I turned on the football game thinking he might want to watch it and it turned out to be a game even I enjoyed. Nice evening.

Home again

We got up and went to the 13 Coins at the airport and had bloody mary's and eggs benedict. Delicious. And then I dropped him at the airport curb.

When I got home, I discovered that he had stripped the sheets and pillowcases off his bed and, along with his towel and washcloth, put them in the washing machine. He always says that he was raised by three women (me and Mom and my sister). We did an excellent job.

He asked me what would happen to Zoey if I was out of the picture short term. That led to 'let's say you fall and break a hip and I can't get there for 3 days, will she be ok?' Yep. His plan is to hop on a plane and work out of my living room for as long as he needs to. He even figured out how he can set it up so when the phone rings at the shop, he can flip a switch so that he can answer it with his cellphone no matter where he is. So he has it all thought out which I thought was incredibly sweet.

He's going to set up a note doc on his drop box and I'm going to leave a couple of names and numbers. For longer, he has all the instructions he needs but for the first 3 days, we agreed to a plan. So very nice of him. I'm very lucky.

After I dropped him off, that would have been a great time to go shopping somewhere, anywhere. The whole town is clued to the TV. Also, it would have been a great time to drop in at the gym and take a swim.

But, I didn't. I came home. I got a text from the airport that the Seahawks were losing and the airport was deadly quiet.

I put more clothes in the washer and turned it on and here we are. I've got my credit card accounts all tallied and sorted and transferred the $ from the bank to the credit card to cover all of our adventures. So worth every penny.

I think now I'll put the stuff back from my bedroom closet to the sewing room and get that set back up and then see what's next. My TiVo is choking with new stuff.

Twitter says the seahawks seem to have stubbed their toe in Charlotte.

I've lived by myself for decades. Except for my brother's now annual visit, I have not had anyone sleep overnight in this house for lots of years.

It's a loft. No sound can be made and not heard in the house. So there is no chance of pretending you are alone when you are not.

My brother, on the other hand, has maybe lived by himself for exceedingly brief periods of time (like a couple of months max) ever. So he has co-living skills. I don't. He makes it so I don't have to so it's fine.

The first couple of days, I just itched to sew. Really. It was wild. I wanted to get in that room and make. Now, I have the room all back together but I can wait until tomorrow.

About mid-week, I was kind of, just a little bit, ready to have the visit over. But, not today. I really enjoyed his being here and appreciated his coming to visit so much.

And now I have no one to help me with the What Shall We Do For Dinner q. And I probably won't go anywhere for it. Hmmmmm

I have a tooth problem happening, I think. It's just kind of a vague dull presence now. Kind of how the last tooth problem started. After a couple of years it got worse to the point that I went to the dentist and it came out. But I now have one tooth missing from the back on the bottom left and one tooth missing from the top right so that about maxes out the missing teeth options if I still want to chew. Dental shit is just beyond my capacity to deal. Maybe I'll die before this one matures.

But, the massive itching I had before my brother came? Almost mostly all gone. I'm thinking it's psychosomatic. (I just asked alexa to spell psychosomatic for me and she did! I must remember to use that more often. Easier than google hunt, cut and paste!)
