Good swim this morning except for those stupid lane lines. I'm trying new stuff that is using different muscles and that part is good. The bad part is when I share a lane I keep whacking the backs of my hands resulting in big, ugly, red and purple blotches on the backs of my hand. This morning I hit it so hard that my hand hurt for a lot of laps. And looks really ugly.

I remembered a pair of neoprene webbed gloves that my aqua fit instructor gave me years ago and, miraculously found them. I trimmed the fingers down so that they aren't webbed any more and are way easier to get on and off and I plan to wear them whenever someone joins me in the lane. Fingers are crossed.

I thought it was supposed to be sunny and hot today which I was really dreading. I have to go downtown to meet a friend for lunch and hot and warm was not something I was looking forward to but, yeah! I was wrong. It's cloudy and cool and perfect and looks like it's going to be pretty much that way until next Monday.

I read and hear about these parts of the country that are sweltering and it makes me just cringe. The older I get the less I can tolerate even the thought of being hot. I with air conditioning for everyone.

I'm not leaving for another 3 hours or more so plenty of sewing time even before I go. I think I'll just get right on it!

I walked and bused to downtown and it was just the perfect weather. Downtown was not jammed - a nice mix of convention people, tourists and workers. I met my friend and we had a fun visit and then I set off for home. I walked and was able to find shade nearly 90% of the way. As I was walking across a park near here, I heard "Susan!!" and turned to see an old swimming buddy. We swapped hi's 'still swimming? Yep' I'm shocked she recognized me dry and even remembered my name. Fun.

I got home and made doll #2 and did most of the cut work on a shirt and now I'm sits for the game which starts in a minute.

I need to walk more. My back is whining and, honestly, I really didn't walk that far. I honestly think if we had more days like today - cool, breezy and not too sunny, I'd be tempted to get out more. But, probably that's just an excuse.

On the up side, none of the outside dust and stuff bothered me at all. There was one section near construction that looked really bad, so I just covered my nose and mouth until I was on the other side of it. Also my cough which has been bad for several weeks has now just about gone away.

Game time

This is one of our city swimming pools. It is just as cool to swim in as you can imagine looking at this picture. It's a 50 foot heated salt water pool. It's open for weekends in May and then June-August. The best time to go is a rainy day in May. You can find parking and it's not crowded.

The big issue with this pool is getting there. You have two choices. You can hike through those woods which is very hilly under that terrain and the trails wind back and forth and it's amazingly easy to get 100% lost. OR you can hike on the shore. See the pier sticking out up there on the right? You come in up just south of  that pier (where the woodsy part starts) and then walk to the pool from there. It's pretty flat - a long, flat walk. BUT the rub is that to get to the flat part from the road or parking lot, you have to go down a steep hill and then the whole time you are swimming you are worried about your ability to get up that fucking hill after walking all that way. If you are me, that is.

So I haven't been in a couple of years but if we get some chilly rainy days when no one else thinks swimming, I might just give it another go.
