For the past few years, I've bought whatever Google wanted me to, pretty much. Particularly in terms of phones and tablets and chromebooks. This year, I plan to do the same. And I would have had they been ready on announce day. I bought the phone and I love it. But the tablet/chromebook they announced only came with an offer to waitlist.

Yesterday I got an email saying they were ready. I had done my research and put my choices in my cart. And I stopped. Do I really want to spend $1,300? I'd like a backup chromebook and I'd like another tablet that is not a Fire. But, I really don't need all the Google glitz and power. They hit out of the park last year with the Pixelbook. I'm nearly tempted to get a second one of those.

I did not hit buy. I went to Amazon and scored a small Asus chromebook for $200 which will work just fine. I'll get a Samsung Tab A if the price plummets or I decide I can't live without another tablet.

Sorry, Google. I love you, but, not this time.

I made a mistake in yesterday's journal entry. zyzyly had posted some fun writing prompts and I copied the list but attributed them to remlap. In other LJ friends news, I went to celluloid_jam's friendzy and started adding 'friends' only to discover that I had added them before and they never added me back. Like most journals these days, their journals are locked down so I couldn't read them before and can't read them now. Sigh. Oh well.

Jeopardy is having a two week teen tournament later this week. I hate all Jeopardy tournaments except the Tournament of Champions. So, I'll get getting back 22 minutes every day for two weeks. I can live with that.

A while back the Chrome browser started making it very easy to clear cookies individually, by domain name or all together. (Settings>Advanced>Content Settings>Cookies>See All Cookies And Site Data - here you can search for things like CapitalOne.Com or Mint or really anything that involves site id and then find more info or delete.

Lately, whenever I hit a site issue twice, I go out those cookies and so far 10 times out of 10 times the problem has been fixed. Today, Mint would not connect with Discover. No matter what I did. So I went in, killed all the Mint cookies and the Discover cookies and everybody was happily cooperating again.

Wow, I just saw a picture of Calgary's new library it's gorgeous and... it has a train!

Today is house cleaner day and hair cut day - these will happen at the same time. They house isn't too bad. It will be happier with a cleaning but the hair is a good two weeks past it's cut date. I also need to pop by the library to pick up a good and stop by that neat grocery market down the block from it. That might not all happen today. Grocery/library may get saved for tomorrow.

And now I am THAT old lady

I've been getting my haircut at Rudy's Barbershop since forever. They used to have like 3 shops and were very cool. And fun, and nice and cheap and forgiving and gave great cuts. Now they have a couple of dozen here and more in California and I think one in New York and they are hipster and not for old ladies.

Today was the day we broke up. Maybe for good.

I got there early. They had the music so loud I could hear it in my ass and the chair was nowhere near the speakers. The hipster chick at the counter screamed at me (because that was the only way to hear her) to have a seat. I did. And the longer I sat there the worse it got. I thought, I can't leave. I'm an old fat woman and I'll play into every stereotype these kids have. And then more pounding. And I edited my brain to WHO THE FUCK GIVES A SHIT WHAT THESE PEOPLE THINK. I found the hipster chick and told her I was bailing on account of the loud music. She did offer to turn it down but I figure if everyone wanted it that way, far be it from me...

I went up the road to SuperCuts where there was no customers and no music at all of any kind. She cut the fuck out of my hair. I mean practically back to the studs. But, she did it quietly, without chitchat and for cheap.

The Supercuts cut cost me nearly half what a Rudy's cut would have been. Plus, I won't have to go anywhere to get a cut from anyone at all at any price until at least next Summer.

So... not so much a loss all around. Walrus approved.

I love my housecleaner

First of all, she makes a wonderful tuna salad sandwich. Seriously. And she brought me one today. So good.

And, once in a while, she leaves me a joke. I discovered today's while eating her tuna sandwich.

A week or so ago I made a dog out of some left over fleece. I had him sitting on the green chair in front of the teddy bears like so:



Today, I see, she moved him so he's nose diving behind them. Cracks me up.



Also note that Zoey's on her couch. I'm going to need to wash those cushions or at least de-kat-fur them. They are getting uggy.

Stuff

celluloid_jam reports that when she started the current friendzy, she left her journal locked down - DOH! So if you tried before and got thwarted, you might consider trying again.

I was just sitting here thinking about if I wanted to mess up my clean kitchen with dinner. Nope. But, do I want to go out to eat? Nope. Hmmmm It's Beef Stroganoff night at 13 Coins. But still, nope.

But, wait! I call 13 and order it up and just go pick it up! My tracker would love the steps. I think we have a plan!!

I picked up a book at the library that I was hoping would give me inspiration - Solo Cooking by Anita Lo. If you enjoy cooking as much as she seems to think you do - based on all the shinanigans her recipes put you through - then you really do not need this cookbook. I'm not going to be fucking with all her ingredients and steps. Plus, a gas stove top is clearly required and I have, use and enjoy my induction cooktop. Back to the library for her. No inspiration was had.
