Double the fun

On the days I have snail mail coming my way, the post office sends me an email with a photo of the envelopes. I love it. If it's only Bed Bath and Beyond coupons I know I don't even need to go check. I can just clear the junk out next time I go past the mail boxes.

But, on days like today, when there is something fun in the mix, I get to enjoy it twice. This morning email says there's a letter - likely Christmas card - from a woman who's blog I found and started reading more than a decade ago. She's no longer keeps it up but I see her on Instagram so I know she's still breathing. She's never sent me anything before so this is quite a treat. It's like hearing from a celebrity! I can't wait to see it. But what a fun thing to know it's coming.

I did a crap job of sleeping last night but was dead out when the alarm went off this morning. One of the many most lovely things about being retired and on my own is that it does not matter. If I get sleepy, I can day sleep. Luxury.

Besides the fun mail coming today, I also am excited about my Echo Clock. It's a silly thing but for $30, I can haz silly. Plus I love a bold clock with all the numbers. What I really want, though, is the Echo for the car. They said it would be available by the end of the year but they are really cutting it close. I'm losing hope.

I have nothing going on today and no clue what will happen. I think I'll start with getting dressed and see where that takes me.

Kick me

The couple next door with the dog who ripped up my hand and the guest dog who barks constantly - Hunter and Colin. Hunter is one one who bakes and used to constantly bring me baked goods. Some were delicious. Some were not. Some were infused with cannabis. Some were not. He'd go for spells. I'd get 3 pies in a week and then nothing for 6 months. Colin is the one who walks the dogs and the one who had his hand not quite tightly enough on the lease a week ago. Hunter and Colin sent out a mass email inviting everyone to their wedding last year? year before last? But, I'm not sure they actually got married. I often heard them screaming at each other (or someone). They are both very odd to be around.

Last night, I got a lovely, brief email from Colin explaining that it was the guest dog who did all the barking while he was out. He was most apologetic and promised it would never happen again. Also promised baked goods to make up for it.

Just now I learned (via building wide email from the building manager) that Hunter died last night. Mostly likely Colin was out at the hospital with Hunter. Cancer.

And other stuff

A year or so ago,I bought this very neat green top at Goodwill. It's one of the few not-made-by-me pieces of clothing left in my closet but I keep it because I love the color and it's sooooo soft. I wore it yesterday and it drove me nuts. No pockets!! I decided as I took it off last night that after I washed it, it would go into the Goodwill hamper.

But, this morning, I got up and thought ...hmmmm what if I added pockets??!!! So I did! Then I decided to trim the sleeves with matching cuffs and then I decided the bottom needed to match the cuffs. Now I have this great, soft sweater with pockets. Goodwill will never see this puppy again!




I took the bandage off my hand. It was just itching me to crazy town. So I took off the bandage and iced it down for a bit and it's way better now. It's not leaking so I think I'll leave the bandage off for a while. Maybe we're at the point where I only bandage it for swimming.

The mail from my blogger friend was, indeed, a Christmas card from her and her husband. I was just delighted. She had to have worked to find my address (not hard, but still). So thoughtful. Also was a card from my brother's oldest son with family photos. They send me one every year with pictures of the whole family and then pictures of each of their daughters who are sure no longer babies! Wow.

My Echo Clock arrived and it's nice. A good size. Easy to see from a distance. It's so cool to 'see' the timer ticking down. I'm so easy to please. I cannot decide where to mount it. For now, it's sitting on a shelf. I think I'll add the where decision and the mounting to my brother's list of ToDo's for when he comes to visit in January.

We have another windy night here. The trees are really moving and the drapes on the terrace are flapping. It's nights like this that make me extra special glad I do not live in a house on a lot with big trees that can fall on the house!

I wrote a card to Colin and left it at his door. I can't hear barking dogs but I can hear someone over there yelling at someone else. I can't hear what they are saying just muffled yelling sounds. Oh, they just stopped. Good. What weird neighbors.
