Well, not really since my vet doesn't do appointments but still. I'm going to skip the swim and take both cats to the vets instead.

On Wednesday night, Biggie thew up the kickboard he had chewed. And then he was fine until last night when he threw up 3 times. No kickboard. This morning he is doing all the normal Biggie things except eating. He is drinking. But, these are the same early symptoms of last time when he needed surgery except perkier. No way he could have eaten any more kickboard and seems weird that it would take 4 days to get stuck...

Right now he's draped across my arms - as he often does.

The Smalls was acting weird on Friday night. Kind of drunk. Then he threw up but only a little foam. Since then he's been fine but... he'd never thrown up anything before. And he'll be along for the ride anyway.

The vet doesn't open til 9. I could swim, come home, get them and go back (the vet is past the pool) and on to the vet and I'm sure it would be fine except I'm sure the swim would not be fun. And I'd prefer getting to the vets when they open which probably isn't even smart. Oh well.

But now it's only 7:30. Makes no sense to leave for another hour.

I'm showered and dressed and coffeed and ready anyway.

He just got up to survey the situation... he's really not un-perky. And The Smalls is just napping his way through it all.

The Smalls is down from 7.3 pounds to 6.5. Biggie is up from 8.5 to 10.5. I thought there was a more distinct difference. I should weigh them both on my kitchen scale to get a level set for it so I can get an idea on my own going forward. But, I think I'll wait til later tonight or tomorrow. They are both a little traumatized.

The Smalls was kind enough to give us a nice mucus filled squirty poop while we were there. On point, that one. He has pills to take twice a day and got blood drawn (no results yet).

Biggie whose really living up to his name got fluids and and injection. They should kick in both in a couple of hours and hopefully he'll start eating. Right now he's actively watching for birds and/or whatever it is he monitors out the window.

They busted out of the carrier when we got home and are now wandering around casing the joint. They were both really not a fan of the whole experience. At all.

Turned out fine to get there right when they opened. It was a good 30 minutes until the next patient showed up. I'm glad I took them. And I'll be even gladder if The Smalls blood work comes back clean and Biggie starts to eat without throwing up. We shall see. Worth the donation of a swim.

In other news... today's job is to find the Echo Dot that I took out of rotation. I want to set it up in the front hallway near the door. I put it someplace. I have no clue where. It's grid search time. Start at one end of the house and look in every possible place until I get to the other end of the house or find it. This will also serve as a good way to fill up the Goodwill bin.

I keep my Google calendar on a tab always available. Every Sunday, I reposition to show 4 weeks. Today's reposition includes the day of the first baseball game of the year!! Spring training but I count that.

Biggie just hopped up here next to the laptop. I think he's forgiven me. I also think The Smalls is still considering whether or not to forgive.

At the vets, before they had their dignity stripped away, they discovered the chairs with slots in them were great fun. Biggie positioned himself on the floor and kept sticking his paw up through the slats where The Smalls could then play WhackaMole.

tidbits

First off, my grid search was short. I had been looking in the bedroom and sewing room. Today I started in the living room and it was in the first drawer I opened... which is the drawer where it should have been and where I should have looked. As I get more tidy and more organized with less stuff, I will learn to look in the obvious place first.

But Echo Dot found and put back into action.

The vet sends the invoice and instructions after the visit in PDF. Which is great because a simple email search turns up all of their vet records to compare easily. Also great to confirm that I heard the vet correctly.

I had forgotten to ask but the PDF explained that the bloodwork results will be back in 3-5 days. Some blood tests they do are instant but the kind that The Smalls usually gets take some extra time.

Biggie is still just as perky as he can be but still won't eat. I even laid out a dish of his kibble so he doesn't have to work for it and nothing. He sniffs at it and walks on by. At least no more vomiting. If he starts again tomorrow (after the drugs wear off) then we'll go back for x-rays to see what the hell he swallowed this time.

I adopted these kitties knowing they were likely going to need special care and that would likely mean extra expenses. I am very grateful I can absorb the costs of their vet bills but I am totally NOT going to go back and see how much I've spent since I got them in July. They are such a joy to have that it has to be worth it.

The Smalls is now up and trying to get on this keyboard ... he printed out a bunch of pages the other day... so I should factor toner costs into how much he's cost me! Geesh.

Biggie and The Smalls slept all afternoon. The Smalls got up a couple of times to eat and then went back to sleep which is his MO. I've decided that unless something else happens, I'm going to hold off worry about him until the blood test results are in.

Biggie, woke up and moved around some a couple of times. One time he was sitting on the couch and all of a sudden leapt to the floor to catch some invisible something which he battled around the living room for a fair amount of time. He played a little with this toy and that (but not Sticking, interestingly). At one point he was on the kitchen counter near the food cabinet so I got out some treats which he ate like normal - ate 3 but didn't ask for more.

Then, finally, this evening, he went over to his tree and ate for a while. Not as long a while as usual but enough so that if he throws up again, there will be something to throw up. (My fear is that he'll throw up foam when I'm not here or do not hear and it will dissolve into the carpet before I discover it so I won't know he's still sick.)

So I'm a little bit optimistic.
