My way

It is very early in the day but already, I've brought out the judgy. Twice.

I was not raised in wealth but I was raised in privilege. Part of that was special lessons when I was young. So I know some shit.

As a small child, I was sent for elocution lessons. We had just moved to North Carolina and I think my Mom did not want me to develop a Southern accent. (Fail but I did manage to dump it when I went to college.)

As a tween, I went to etiquette classes. I learned how to conduct myself in polite society and which fork to use when.

In high school I had a seminar on how to smoke cigarettes in public with poise and grace. And how to tactfully terminate domestic employees.

So... as you can imagine, I have lots of judging points.

As I ate my breakfast this morning, I mused on how eating alone free from anyone else's eyes, I have developed some really awful eating habits that would make my etiquette teacher horrified. I do hope, that if and when I finally get to share a meal with another human, I remember how to do it without being gross.

And then I got an email meant for someone else. It was very personal and important. I replied kindly and pointing out that it had obviously not gone where intended. Instead of a 'thank you for letting me know'. I got a 'sorry Sent From iPhone'. Inadequate.

Those kinds of judgments always turn my mind over and over the fertile ground of Says Who?? There are good reasons for being able to speak clearly without engendering prejudice and some rules of etiquette just make good sense. But most of the rules I learned have morphed into very different ways of being these days. The guidelines of helping others to feel good about themselves and appreciation for people, places and things in general seem far more relevant. But who says my rules are for everybody. So many different things matter today than did in days of old.

So wanders my old lady mind on yet another Monday morning in pandemic-ville.

I may do a load of laundry today.

Re-ramping up my Instagram has given me some new crochet ideas.

OOOOH my ultra cheap cellphone plan just gave me more data which I really don't need but thanks. I pay $180 a year for 3GB of data a month and they just sent me an email saying that now it's 4. I rarely use 1 but if I ever do leave the house again, that could go to 2. :)

Ok, now I'm going to get into the shower.
