There's a gynormous shopping area about 20 minutes south of here. There are lots of furniture stores there. I think I am going there today to eliminate some recliners. This one I got from Amazon is not horrible. It's just not my forever chair. But it does prove to me that ugly as they are, a recliner is the right move. I just need to find the one that feels perfect and doesn't look terrible.

Tomorrow would probably be better traffic wize but it's also supposed to be hot-adjacent. And it really does not matter when. Except I want to get this off my brain. So today. A couple of the stores don't open til 11 and it's still only 9 so I've got time.

When we were little, the banks used to hand out lollipops in the drive through. My Mom would let us have them until we got the plastic wrapping off - we were little and it was not easy and it kept us quiet and occupied - and then she'd just take the lollipops and wrappings and toss them into the car trash.

This morning I ended up with Biggie's cup o' treats in the living room and he knocked it off the table and proceeded to chase it around the room. He could not get the top off but could smell the goodies. It kept him quiet and occupied.

He finally gave up and went outside to try the birds. But the post painters and their moving cage are back today. The cage moves loudly and slowly. And Biggie does not approve. I just walked by the bedroom and see he has just gone back to bed. My bed. Right next to the pillow. I'm not sure I blame him. He's taking a mulligan on the day so far.

I think I'll go get a shower and get dressed and figure out my game plan.

So first I went to the store that had the recliner that I was pretty sure I wanted. I was greeted at the door by The World's Most Obnoxius Twinkie. It was clear she was going to velcro herself to me so I told her which chair I wanted to see. We waited a long time while she looked it up on her tablet. Then she couldn't find it in the store. We did a tour of the store while she looked. Finally, I found it.

It was lovely but too long in the seat. Perfect for reclining, but not for sitting and computing. Twinkie, by the time I had finished figuring out the chair, noted that - good news! She could get me one in the color I didn't want in six weeks and the color I did want in 12. I kissed the Twinkie goodbye (metaphorically, of course) and went to the next store.

The next store was La z Boy. The clerk there was way more calm and informed. I explained I wanted a non-puffy non-rocking power recliner that I did not have to wait a lifetime to get into my living room. She got it. Sadly they have a shit load of puffy recliners and even more rocking ones. Finally we found the perfect one. I mean really perfect. It even has lumbar support.

If I want leather, it's a 14 month wait but she can get me fabric in 7 months.

Onward. Next stop was Macy's Furniture. (I actually was heading for Macy's Furniture Outlet but somehow missed that.) There I hooked up with Emilio. Emilio was even better than La z Boy's Veronica. I told him my requirements and he said Ugh. Well, fortunately we have a lot of recliners. Sadly so many are puffy and also rockers. And there were some really ugly assed recliners. I loved the ones with the cup holders. Those damn cup holders could hold a freakin bucket. Whaddya fish off those things??? But we soldiered on. This was was too big and this one was too tall - my feet were going to have to use email to talk to the floor.

As we wandered around, he explained how all of their inventory was bought up months ago and they have had no luck getting new stuff in.

We were nearly done when he said "Wait, I have one more." And it was a beaut. And comfortable. No lumbar support but no visible controls (one of my nice to's). It was leather which I did not want but it was a pebbly leather which I sure like better than the smooth. I explained that I had a cat who was bound to dig into the surface at some point. "Our maintenance plan actually now covers teeth and claws!! It's $125 for 5 years and if you happen to never use it, you get the money back at the end of the five years. It also covers the motor, etc."

It's not too long so sitting and working at my little desk will work fine. It has a head rest that lies down nicely when you want it to. It only needs 4" from the wall. No rocking. Nice, wide arms. And a perfect foot rest. I was falling in love when Emilio said...

"Let me see if we have one."

"Oh! It's a Christmas miracle. We have one single one in the warehouse right now."

So I bought it.

Even while he was taking my information, he kept checking to make sure it was still there in the warehouse. Finally he hit buy and we were safe.

It will be here on October 4.

Oh, little nerdy joy moment. He asked for my first name and last name and email address. When I told him susandennis at gmail, he looked really impressed. "Wow, you must have been one of the first gmailers!" Old people nerdism.
