One of my earliest memories is of the day after he was born. He and Mommy were in the hospital still because that's what you did then. Daddy was home with me(4) and my sister(nearly 3) and that was weird. Daddy dressed us in our Sunday clothes and we all got into the car to go see Mommy.

We drove to the hospital - a huge square brick building - and walked over to the grass and Daddy told us to look up and there was Mommy in a window about 5 floors up waving like mad. They would not let us into the hospital, of course. No children allowed. So the wave was it.

But then... the payoff. Daddy took us to get ice cream!!!!

I was not in favor of another baby. My sister was intrusive enough. But, ice cream, I could get behind.

I still love ice cream but, now, after 70 years, I can also see the enormous benefit of having him as a brother. He's a keeper, I've decided. HBD, [personal profile] bill_schubert

I had a very lovely swim this morning. I swim 20 laps in a 25 yard pool - so 1,000 yards. The same every day. Some days I get to the pool's edge and don't even want to go in. Some days it feels like every lap is a chore to be endured. And some days, it just feels wonderful from the first lap to the last. Today was one of those days that feels so good and so effortless. Until I get out of the water and gravity has its way with me. But, in the water I'm graceful and weightless.

Tonight I have a Mariners game. It's at 6:40 so I'll leave here about 4:15 or so. It's a special night for a number of reasons. We are playing Baltimore which is currently has the best record in the American league and the second best in all of baseball and we beat the shit out of them last night. They have not lost a series all season (series are generally 3 or 4 games). We now have an 8 game winning streak. If the Mariners win tonight it will be huge. As usual, I'm taking the safe bet that they will not but if they do...

Also tonight, they are inducting a favorite pitcher of old into the Mariners Hall of Fame. Felix Hernadez was a great picture and a character beyond all characters. He last pitched here in 2019 and retired shortly thereafer. But he was loved. Yesterday, when he walked into the stadium, downstairs where the players hang out, he was greeted by a tunnel of about 100 TMobile Park employees cheering and high fiving and just saying welcome home. It was quite the homecoming. The induction ceremony is tonight before the game.

And, if that's not enough Mariner excitement, Frank pinged me last night. He found a couple of reasonably priced Press Club tickets on Seat Geek and was interested in going tomorrow? OF COURSE I was. And the menus for tonight and tomorrow look particularly yummy. So I'm not expecting wins but I am expecting fab food.

I have framed pictures hanging on all the walls of this living room and most of them are hanging crooked although I could swear that when I hung them I leveled them out and used museum putty to ensure they would stay straight. I think I'm just doomed to crooked and I think I'm ok with that.

I need to take a shower and tidy up and get a salad for an early lunch so I can save up my hungry. Then probably crochet and TV. I need to finish up And Just Like That so I can cancel HBO/Max.
