Strolling down memory lane
Sep. 21st, 2003 09:42 amI'm reading a memoir written by a woman I went to high school with... and it is a strange experience. She is exactly my age, raised in circumstances nearly exactly like mine. As an artist and performer, her life has been different than mine. But hanging with Kris Kristopherson and Willie Nelson isn't really what made the big differences. She was faster to figure out the world than I was. I always thought that maybe I had a leg up on some truths but lacked the courage to really act on them. She didn't.
I don't regret much of anything and I don't spend any time at all thinking about what if so reading her book is kind of a guilty pleasure. Plus, she's a pretty good story teller.
