I woke up this morning to dark and cool... Heaven. It was still wet out but the rain was down to drips. I read the paper and called Mom and then decided it was maybe cool enough for a walk. Turns out I was nearly right. It was cool enough for a short-ish walk. I went down to the aquarium and back - a little less than 2 miles, I think. It was fun to check out how things on one of my usual routes had been getting along without me.

Mom is happy. She answers the phone on the first ring with 'Good morning!' It's cute. When she found out it was me she said 'oh good, I have questions!'

She thought she saw - on the crawler while she was watching tennis on tv - that John Olerud was playing 1st base for the Yankees. "Is that true?? Did the Yankees pick him up??" She's so lost without the internet. The Charleston newspaper is charming but not big on baseball news.

She was also a little hosed on the chain of events yesterday - who contacted Trey, why Bill was so pissed, what exactly happened and if she needed to straighten any one out. (Meaning if the folks at 'the home' had screwed up, she would land on 'em.) I explained it all and assured her that 'the home' was innocent. And all was fine now.

And, finally, she was confused by the numbers that the nurse brought in from Bill. When he was there last weekend, I had asked him to buy her a long distance calling card and then show her how to use it. He forgot. So yesterday he called the nurse and gave the nurse his long distance numbers so Mom could make long distance calls. However, Mom is clueless about any kinds of long distance calls that do not involve picking up the phone and dialing the telephone number. I told her that if she wanted to call us, to grab an aid or someone, give them Bill's note and the number and ask them to do it. "oh, good idea!"

She assured me that she's not uncomfortable and not stressed and happy to stay right there 'until they fix me.' Her cough is wet and terrible. She has so much fluid. But she's very used to it. And, as she says, "I wasn't planning on playing much tennis today anyway."

This morning's paper had a great headline: Mariners Find A New Way to Lose. On the up side, we still aren't as bad as [livejournal.com profile] kjaz's team - they fired their CEO... geesh.
