When it's cloudy here in Seattle, 78 degrees feels more like 72 or 3. It's just lovely. Yesterday was cloudy most of the day and today is the same and it's really not only very pleasant outside, it lends an air of 'everything is fine and dandy' when you are inside.

But they are threatening heat. Next week. Not Africa hot (which I guess we should start saying Arizona hot) but hot enough for around here. godblessmyairconditioner.

For now, we are in weather heaven and I'm so grateful.

The clouds make it dark enough on my way to the pool that you need headlights. Soon enough it will barely be daylight. Fine by me.

My swim this morning was kind of a slog. But I got through it and then, in the elevator down to the car, this very fit young man said "I watch you workout in the pool every day. It's very impressive. You motivate me." I hope something wonderful happens to him today or soon - kindness like that needs instant and vast rewards. And my swim felt instantly a lot less sloggy!

On to Mercedes. I made a conscience decision not to be pissed off and it helped. I remembered to take both keys (so they could rebattery them). My new service guy is a woman! Julie. Who looked at my car history and my mileage and suggested we NOT do the recommended full workup. But instead just check everything and change the oil and something else minor which I can't remember. I told her about the passenger seatbelt issue which she could not replicate and she said 'let me get you the price on replacement and then, if/when you hit your pain point, you'll know and we can just swap it out.' So wise.

I got a ride home with their shuttle driver and then a confirmation email with Julie's phone number and email and a link to follow my car's progress. Coolio.

Biggie's been emptying his treat cups too quickly lately so I told Amazon it was time to level up. The good treat trick won't be here until tomorrow but I couldn't pass up this one. And it works well. He gets some treats easily but it took him a while to get all of them. And Julio liked chewing on the monster's arms.

Julio's ok with the new food and Biggie will be. I served up the whole can this morning - probably be good to divide half a can for them for each meal. But, at least they eat it.

OMG just got a text from my new car guy Julie. Need new front pads and rotors plus the other routine stuff. $1.600. I do like to stop so I'm ok with keeping the breaks working. And a new seatbelt would be $1,200! So now, at least, when the seatbelt locks up on me, I will be able to take comfort in saving $1,200! It's the shotgun seatbelt so rarely used anyway.

I do so appreciate getting all this via text with confirmation via email. Go, Julie!

But, whew. On Thursday I will learn how much the condo assessment will be. And then I'm going plunder my investments for a cash infusion. I need to cover the Mariner tickets for next year that I already bought, the second set I want to buy in September, the assessment, and now the car fix and probably also my HOA dues for next year. I've always been very careful about taking cash from my investments but I ain't gettin' any younger and I can't take it with me so I'm perfectly fine financing myself now and I'm grateful I can do it. Thank you, younger me, for the excellent planning*.

*Actually, thank you, my friend in HR who made sign up for max matching way back when I did not have a clue when I thought 401k was a new brand of jeans. And to my other friend who made me take advantage of the work benefit financial advisor. Me should be thanked, however, for listening to them both.

Oh crap, it's fire alarm testing day. Turns out Biggie and Julio are not fans. It won't last long but they are clearly not amused.

I don't know, with the mugginess today it feels even hotter than it is to me. It annoys me that Seattle has slowly been becoming more muggy in the summers.

YAY Julie! It's great to have a good car person. And yay for your kind fellow swimmer. We need more folks like that around. Yay you for listening to good advice as your younger self.

The monster is adorable! Does any pet like the fire alarm?
