Friday night, there were reports of gunshots in the White Sox ballpark during a game. There were a huge number of incorrect reports, of course, and they did not stop the game. But, today, an ESPN reporter cleared up the mystery.

"...the shooting at Guaranteed Rate Field during a #WhiteSox game was indeed an accidental discharge by one of the women “grazed” by the bullet. She reportedly snuck the gun in past metal detectors hiding it in the folds of her belly fat."

As someone pointed out, this could make future ballpark security checks very interesting.

p.s. Why is it that I only seem to encounter responsible, thoughtful gun owners in novels. There must be some out there... Maybe the ones that actually hunt, or do serious target shooting?

Umm…doesn’t that imply either a failure of that metal detector or the person operating it? Why should it mean changes to the overall security approach instead of just fixing the specific problem? Also, why on earth would someone feel the need to smuggle a gun to a baseball game?

Had I known that belly fat could so easily defeat security measures, I'd have become a jewel smuggler years ago.
