In early 1992, I moved here from just south of San Jose, CA. In Morgan Hill, I had a 1,000 sq ft, 2 story townhouse with gas hot water and electric everything else. My electric bill was about $70 a month - year round.

When I moved to Seattle, Seattle City Light had a thing where you could pay the same amount every month and then, once a year, they'd settle up any under/overage. So I called to sign up. The guy was very nice and very apologetic. Since no one had ever lived in my condo before, he'd have to estimate on the high side so I might not want to do it. Then he told me, he'd have to charge me $13 a month. I thought he was kidding. I have 1,300 sq feet and it's all electric.

Over the years - some of them very difficult power years - my monthly electric cost has gone up. This past year, it's been about $35-40 a month which I still think is incredibly cheap.

I just got the bill from mid-June to mid-July. This does not cover those horrible days last week when it got so very hot. But, it does cover a lot of warm days when I ran the air conditioner every single day all day long.

$65.61

So why do you get billed monthly and we get billed bi-monthly? I don't get it.

And Shobhit recently had a conniption for getting a bill for $87 -- for two months.

not quite sure. when i lived in a rented apartment i got a bill every other month ... i own my place now and i get a monthly bill. i just assumed everyone got a monthly bill now but maybe it has to do with the rental thing ... or the size of the space (since i have gas heat that matters) ... or the rate schedule (there are several different tarriffs for electric and gas energy depending on how you use it, when you use it, ... ). i'm on G1 T and E1 TB tarriffs.

i just checked and my last month's bill was just over $88 ... i'm paying more than that because i had a month when my furnace was out over the winter and i used lots of energy for heat and now i'm paying for it (balanced payment plan).

and i'm sure this is much much more than [livejournal.com profile] susandennis cared to know about my energy consumption :)

i never claimed any of it makes sense. there's nothing wrong with your set--what you say makes total sense, which means that it has nothing to do with PG&E.

I'll join the others in making you feel better. With what was Cinergy/PSI and two months ago became part of Duke Energy, my monthly budget billing amount is $113. Most months my actual usage is about half that. But when its really hot (like this month) or really cold (like December and January), actual usage is usually twice that. So it evens out.

The highest its ever been for one month is just shy of $200 a few years ago when we hit -22F for two nights and did not go above freezing for a month and a half.

Also I guess I should toss in that I have a bit over twice your square footage.

I live in a low cost energy area, however, I don't see it.

My last bill was $181.00. The winter it goes way down. I run the A/C 24/7 and set at about 71 degrees.

Now I bet everyone feels better.

Morgan Hill? That's where our old au pair Cathy now lives; talk about memories. Not to mention that I was born in Gilroy.
