Still cheap
Jul. 30th, 2006 07:11 pmIn early 1992, I moved here from just south of San Jose, CA. In Morgan Hill, I had a 1,000 sq ft, 2 story townhouse with gas hot water and electric everything else. My electric bill was about $70 a month - year round.
When I moved to Seattle, Seattle City Light had a thing where you could pay the same amount every month and then, once a year, they'd settle up any under/overage. So I called to sign up. The guy was very nice and very apologetic. Since no one had ever lived in my condo before, he'd have to estimate on the high side so I might not want to do it. Then he told me, he'd have to charge me $13 a month. I thought he was kidding. I have 1,300 sq feet and it's all electric.
Over the years - some of them very difficult power years - my monthly electric cost has gone up. This past year, it's been about $35-40 a month which I still think is incredibly cheap.
I just got the bill from mid-June to mid-July. This does not cover those horrible days last week when it got so very hot. But, it does cover a lot of warm days when I ran the air conditioner every single day all day long.
$65.61

So why do you get billed monthly and we get billed bi-monthly? I don't get it.
And Shobhit recently had a conniption for getting a bill for $87 -- for two months.

Date: 2006-07-31 05:55 am (UTC)The highest its ever been for one month is just shy of $200 a few years ago when we hit -22F for two nights and did not go above freezing for a month and a half.
Also I guess I should toss in that I have a bit over twice your square footage.

Date: 2006-07-31 11:11 am (UTC)My last bill was $181.00. The winter it goes way down. I run the A/C 24/7 and set at about 71 degrees.
Now I bet everyone feels better.
