In the good old days, a multi day project like this had natural breaks. Smoke breaks. They were solid markers of progress and the perfect excuse. Sadly, nothing has replaced it.

But between yesterday and today, I unearthed to family heirlooms from those good old days.

Yesterday, I found Daddy's Zippo.

He rose through the ranks of Hanes Knitwear from just after I was born until the 80's. Before he left it had merged with Hanes Hosiery and the combined company had been bought by Sara Lee but, Hanes Knitwear - underwear and pajamas - was our company. And this was his Zippo.

Then, this morning, I found this.

It's the silver monogrammed cigarette case that Mom gave Daddy on their first anniversary. It's clearly been used but also carefully preserved with the card that has Mom's handwriting.

I don't keep old shit. But these two items are coming with me to Issaquah.

I've done two of the four shelves and taken one load down to the dumpster. The other two are mostly big stuff - easy decisions.

I am so filthy. I fell into bed last night and realized just now that I am still wearing the shirt I put on to go to the game on Friday. I think after I finish the one closet, I am going to take a shower and stop for the day.
