I picked my desk chair for the color and price. Well, actually Sheri picked it. Purple and cheap. She got it from an office that was downsizing. It's just not good enough. It's not comfortable and I spend way too much time in it to not have it right.

So, several weeks ago, I set out to find a better one. Talk about Mission Impossible! There used to be several office furniture places around here - some very near here. And all have gone out of business. We have Office Max/Depot and Staples. They all have office chairs. None have anyone on staff who knows the first thing about office chairs. They can't tell you how to operate them, why one is $300 more than the other one or which one might be a good fit for what I want. Costco has a couple of sexy ones but I can't figure out if they are good ones and/or what makes a good one and/or even how to operate them. I wandered around online but it's hard to ass test those puppies, ya know?

Then I remembered the ergo lady to came here and showed me how best to set up my office. She did a great job. So I dug her info up (thankgod for email archives) and sent her a note asking her where they 'sell' chairs as opposed to just having them out on the floor to buy. I even suggested that if all else failed maybe I could hire her to go with me to Costco, etc. and shop.

I was about to get worried when I didn't hear anything for a day or two but bam! No worries needed. She is all over this. She sent me the name and number of a place that does exactly what I want - on this end of town! - and the name of a woman to talk to and she's already primed her with what I want and that I'm calling!! (I hope she gets a cut of the action.)

I just left a voicemail for the chair lady. It's actually a company that does all kind of facility type stuff for small to mid-size businesses. Never would have found them on my own. I'm jazzed and so is my butt.

Hehehe, I had the same problem a couple of years ago. So I asked Facilities where they got their stuff, and they said MBI on Mercer Street.

So I called them and found a pair of new (but undelivered) Aeron chairs that were destined for a dot bomb that couldn't pay its bills. So woot, at $531 each, we got a little piece of history!

A good office chair is *totally* worth paying for!

Aeron by Herman Miller is one of the best. Pricey yes, but it is available on ebay, you can get it in purple - a shade that would go well with your place, it comes in two sizes (maybe even 3) and it is is totally adjustable, even the armrests as someone else mentioned. I think I paid between $500-600 on ebay and have never regretted it!

Looks like the Aeron may no longer be available in purple - unless you can fine a used one. There are still quite a few colors available howeer.
