One man's trash...
Jan. 8th, 2024 08:35 amWow You are a neat freak, aren't you? Sylvia said last week when she was here. I love how you have a place for everything. Martha said when she came in Saturday to see my 'colors'. This apartment is very easy to keep tidy and it's one of the things I like most about it. And I like many many things about it.
I do notice when I go into other people's apartments that paper is a tidy killer Holly has a back room with two large tables that are covered with paper - calendars, bills, letters, all kinds of stuff. It seems like everyone's kitchen counter/island/peninsula is a place to leave paper clutter. I have worked hard to eliminate paper and now I am so glad. It just makes everything so much easier. For Me. NOT for everyone. Clearly having paper is a comfort situation for many, I'm just grateful that it's not for me.
Green dots, here at the cult, mean no paper. There's one in my internal mail cubby in the mailroom and one on the wall outside my unit. It took a couple of months but finally, the dots are working. I did notice the other day that not very many have green dots so I can see now why it took at while to 'take'.
On Fridays they put a copy of next week's menus in the cubbies. And post them online. Except, last Friday, they did not get posted online. I could have looked at Joan's or Myna's but instead I went down to the mailroom and pilfered one out of someone's cubby and looked at it there, then replaced. They finally got them online last night. The lunch menu looks kind of meh but the dinner menu has some delicious looking options and the buffet dinner menu looks good, too.
And several/many folks on my reading list are collectors of DVD's and CD's. I don't even have anything to play them on any more. Books. I have a couple of knitting/crochet books, a couple of books I keep for sentimental reasons and that's it. No books. No DVD's. No CD's. Gives me Shelf Love (ha, I'm cobbling a new term learned today from
zoefruitcake!"
BUT while I'm polishing my halo, I'm also looking at the enormous amount of yarn, the ridiculous number of nicknaks, and the stupid amount of electronics and peripherals I have stashed in this small apartment. The shear number of pairs of scissors in this house is shameful. I have probably 9 pairs of shoes I will never wear again. Mariners apparel? It's in the back of the closet so no one will see.
Yeah, my house looks tidy but it's only because I'm good at hiding shit.
It's 2023 who the fuck needs a lava lamp????

Actually, I do. I love it. And so does Julio.
This morning, as I was going to the pool, I passed Sigi, another regular, on her way home. Yesterday, another pool regular made me laugh in the elevator. The online app for the cult has three sorted spreadsheets - first name, last name unit number. Then it has another link to resident bios with photos. It's a wonderful resource. Just now I looked up Sigi. She grew up in Frankfurt, Germany and then spent her working years over here as a space physicist!! Robert and Sylvia each have a bio (most couples just do their bios together). He's a retired chemist and oceanographer and after he retired, he spent lots of years as a guest lecturer on Regence Seven Seas cruise ships! Shirley was a National Park Chief Scientist, raised two children and has MS and uses a bionic gadget to help stimulate her leg!
Today I need to call my home insurance company and see if I can shave some off the condo bill. And that's all I have planned so far.

Date: 2024-01-09 07:44 am (UTC)I love your lava lamp! I miss mine. I had one for years that had been a cousin's but it was one of the few things that got broken during the move up here. I'm glad Julio has one to enjoy.
It's neat you can learn about your neighbors that way, sounds like you have some interesting people to talk to.
