Bret the realtor sent me an email that the building suffered several weather related (frozen pipe) leaks over the weekend. His unit was damaged and he was going to check on mine this morning. Fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

He just called and it may be ok for me after all.

He said they came home last night to 3 or 4 inches of water flooding their unit. The fire department was slow to get there because there were burst pipes all over the city. (Also Christian and his husband live just below Bret and they got hit, too, but, apparently, not as bad.) Bret said they will have to gut their unit.

He asked if I'd be willing to rent mine to them for maybe 3-6 months while they get theirs fixed.

FUCK YEAH!!!!!! It's a wonderful solution for both of us. Particularly me. I'll have money coming in instead of going out. By the time their unit is rebuilt, the roof project will be done, it will be Summer and prime selling time.

Omg the more I think about it, the more I feel like I've been rescued! He's very grateful and I'm very grateful. Plus, I'm seriously delighted I can help him out.

Wow. Game changer. Wow.

In other news. Man, that news is so big, I can't even think.

I did have a lovely swim this morning. I was later than usual so all by myself. My shin is sooooooo much better. I get a twinge now and then but that's it. My upper leg is still suffering a little and my lower back/top of my ass is complaining a little but nothing like before. Not even close. It used to hurt so much to get to and from swimming. This morning, I realized that it was the cold that was uncomfortable, not my leg!

No plans for today except to now just wrap my brain around this news. Wow.

Bad for them but excellent for you! Yay!

My painter's pipes froze this morning too. Mine (in the new place) seem okay.

Woah! Sucks for Bret (and the people below him) - but what a fab solution for both of you!

I wonder if his insurance helps pay for the costs of him having to live elsewhere while things are being fixed?

I was actually wondering if it would make sense to try to rent out your unit - but it would be a Whole Thing to find a tenant, and - since your plan is to sell - find one who would be ok with having people come through and show the place, and be given 30 days notice when you have a buyer :D

But this - this works perfectly!

Although, I would mentally figure on it being more like 7-8 months if they are getting an estimate of 6 months, LOL. Construction is never on time! Hopefully the estimate is closer to 3 months, and they can get started right away - then they will probably be out by July :D

Yay! A rental!! That is Good News! I've been wondering if renting your condo would be a short-term solution for you. Now you've got it and you can breathe a little easier. And Bret has a place to stay. (OK, I'm sure he didn't choose to get flooded, but I hope his insurance will help with rental costs). And - bonus points - He's got motivation to be a good tenant since he's your realtor. Not all tenants are. It's a win-win all around.

BUY A LOTTERY TICKET, because some gals have all the luck and you are that gal. ☺️

ETA: also, the timing is perfect since when it becomes available for sale again it will be in that sweet spot time of year for residential real estate sales, I think.

Yikes. There's these apartment units down the street from me that have been unoccupied since I've lived here. Water has been seeping out of the ground around that building since the first really cold night. That whole intersection is just a sheet of ice. I wonder when the owners will notice? The come by several times a week to keep up on the landscaping, but they might be hiding out from the cold.
