I did go out but to the eye doctor and QFC and then decided to try the highly recommended donut shop that's in the same area.

It's kind of dark and grungy - not something you really want in a place where you buy food but, whatevs. No glazed donuts. WTF? I found something close and another thing that looked pretty good and ordered up. There were prices listed which I thought was odd.

How many clues do I need? MANY, apparently.

There are a ton of signs like small businesses always accumulate at the checkout counter. I only really had time to read one - two overly wordy paragraphs which basically said credit cards would be charged extra and debit cards would not. I don't carry a debit card. There's one in the glove compartment of the car but walking back through the rain and puddles to get it didn't seem like a good plan.

I had cash. It was $11.53 which I thought was too much but since I had not asked, I didn't complain. I gave her $15 cash. And waited. "Do you want a receipt, dear?" Said the woman who's 'dear' I am not. "No, I'd like change."

"Oh we're cashless, honey" she said pointing to one of the many signs that said, in fact, they are cashless.

Now, I totally get cashless. I have zero complaints. Cashless with a surcharge on my credit card, yeah, no.

I pushed the box back at her and asked for my money back and left. Krispy Kreme always has glazed and they take payment any way you want to offer it.

I stopped at the eye doctor's because it was easier than talking to them on the phone (which I had not tried but phone talking is never choice number 1). They have a lovely store front office just next to the QFC. I was really glad I went in. Turns out they are not, as their website looks, an eyeglass place that gives exams. They are a full fledged full service eye evaluate and fix it place. I didn't check but I think the head doc is an ophthalmologist. Anyway, very impressive. And easy. March 1 9:30.

Then on to QFC which I have decided that I really do not like as well as Safeway. S'ok. They had my butter on sale - $1.50 a pound!! And all I really went in for was popcorn. I was down to my last few kernals.

All done. And my leg got some work. I swear I think that PT guy fucked it up royally. The pain I have now is not what I had before, I don't think. It feels like it's getting a little better but I didn't sleep on it weirdly part of last night and that's causing issues now. That poor leg can't catch a break. Sigh.

Unless you can say honey the way Flo does in 'Alice' you should NOT be saying it. Dear can also be said by the bagel and coffee server in Manhattan.

There are linguistic standards in the world.

I remember when I worked at Three Girls Bakery, we used to have a fee for charges under $5. A customer sued us over that, and won.

That's the first I've heard that "cashless" means "we will take your money, but we won't give change back" - that's pretty amazing that they get away with that!

That donut place has got a LOT of nerve. I'd have done the same as you did.

I need popcorn kernels. For Christmas, I was gifted the popcorn popper that you like and might still use, the glass one with the plastic or silicone handle? Is it still your favorite way of popping your corn? I have not tried mine yet, and it is quite typical for me to go months without trying my new stuff. Do you add butter via the dispenser in the lid?

The nerve of that donut place! I've never even heard of somewhere being "cashless" and would have done the same thing you did.

My favorite coffee shop, which unfortunately didn't make it, had a sign requesting that people pay cash if the purchase was under $5 since they had to pay for debit and credit card purchases. They were so sweet there that nobody minded. All the regulars were on a first name basis with the owners and each other. If I didn't have cash, I'd just buy an extra snack or pay for a friend's coffee, too, and they'd get mine next time. ;)
