On November 7 of last year, the podiatrist told me to never ever ever take a step without full arch supports. So never go barefoot again.

I spent a giant chunk of my 74 years not wearing any shoes. In winter, maybe socks but maybe not. The minute I walked in the door, shoes off. Before my 20's, I spent every summer wearing shoes ONLY when absolutely necessary outside or in.

Now my feet never go without arch support. I have very good supportive slippers that I wear when I'm not wearing shoes.

But, my brain has not yet gotten the memo. If I had a nickel for every time I walked out of here in my slippers... I've gotten to the car several times. I've worn them to dinner and down to pick up the mail. Fortunately, if you don't have great eyesight and/or aren't paying attention to my feet, you might not notice. But I do.

I miss shoelessness.

In other news, my leg is having a day. It's just screaming at me. But, I have taken in on a few walks today. Maybe I should have not. Whothefuckknows.

I went to visit the pool again. Erica says they still don't know what's causing the cloudy and now the bromine levels are too high. She's thinking maybe next week. Sigh.

I'm like you--I have never wanted to wear shoes. As a child I wouldn't if I could sneak outside past my mom. As an adult, I have always kicked my shoes off and gone barefoot immediately on getting home. I've even taken off my shoes at work under my desk sometimes. Until about 7 years ago I was diagnosed with vena stasis and have to wear compression socks all of the time. :P

I've tried skipping a day hear and there, and if I have my feet up most of the time, I can skip a day for a rare treat, but if I don't have my feet up without compression socks, I have a flare up. Compression socks are better than pain and definitely better than losing the ability to walk if I didn't take care of it.

I generally wear shoes at home now too since I don't want to slip on our wood floors in the compression socks.
