Last night I got an email about the pool with an exposed list of addressees - it was not a long list and I know most. The email was sent by Shirley. Shirley is a former Chief Scientist with the National Park Service and a certified financial planner. She and her husband (also a former scientist) are in the pool in the early morning like me. She has very limited mobility due to MS. She uses a walker to get from the edge of the pool to her mobility scooter. He helps in the pool which she uses to 'walk'.
The email said the meeting was to talk about 'resident options'.
But then, one of the recipients - Kip Smith - replied to all saying "I have been a swimmer (lived) in pools for more than 66 years. Some competitive, mostly recreational." And going on to say that we should just dump a bunch of copper sulfate into the pool and that would fix it. He also, thankfully, noted that he was in Alaska and would be unable to attend the meeting. Kip, by the way, is the guy who got fired by the resident council from his position as Disaster Preparedness Chair. They cannot find anyone else to take the slot but he was worse than nobody so his ass got canned - after 2 months on the job.
If he were going to be there, I absolutely would not be going.
BUT I might not go anyway.
This pool is not ours in any way. It belongs to Timber Ridge from whom we rent. The pool is an amenity. Not even to the level of windows, for instance. It is fun, it is lovely, it is nice to have. It is not critical and, most importantly, it does not belong to the people who get to use it.
The options for residents are to band together and go to other pools or wait until this one gets fixed. I'm not interested in going to other pools.
I'm just not feeling all warm and fuzzy about getting together with a bunch of old people who are pissed, thoughtless and misguided and powerless in their endeavor. Plus, if any more are like Kip, combative.
I think I'll talk to Myrna and get her take on it.
I worked on the latest puzzle last night and got all but about 20 pieces done. I left them intentionally so that someone else would finish and get that great finish feeling. My plan worked better than I imagined. Bonny and Joan not only finished it but also started a new one! They got all the pieces righted and all but a couple of the edges in place. Perfection. I worked on it before dinner and got a respectable amount done. I love working on it by myself but also sharing the load with others who work on it at other times. Myrna is a good puzzle partner. Joan is a pain the in the ass puzzle partner and Bonny is just a whiner BUT I'm glad to have even those two on board.
I went out yesterday. The Merrill shoes I bought in November are already coming unglued plus I wanted a new pair that was not ugly.
The shoe store is a very funny place. They only carry orthopedic shoes and insoles and they do elaborate shoe repair like in the olden days. Three guys. When you walk in the front door you are met by a beeping meter that asks you to turn your electronic devices off or leave them in the car. They are VERY aggressive about it. I leave my watch and phone in the car. I overheard a customer asking the one guy why and his answer was the he was hypersensitive to electronic devices. He is so living in the wrong world.
Anyway, they were very busy - my bad for going on a Saturday. But gave me the option of fix or replace. I chose fix. Meanwhile I looked at their offerings and they did not have many non-ugly shoes. I tried on a couple but didn't love them and they were $150 and $200 respectively. I already have shoes I don't love. I don't need to spend that kind of lettuce on more.
So I got into the car and went to Target and bought myself a pair of actually really nice looking Sketchers. And, after wearing them for the rest of the day, I know they feel great, too. $50 including extra arch support insert. My podiatrist would not be pleased but fuck her.
My leg was not pleased but not with the new shoes. The getting in and out of the car and the motion of using the pedals annoys the shit out of it. Last night it woke me up several times. It feels like a bolt of pain shooting down my shin. It didn't last long any of the times but I need to be very careful getting into the damn car next time.
This morning it is way better and I plan to work to keep it that way.
It's still early so I think I'm going to get dressed and go puzzle a bit before anyone else gets out there.

The real question is how much are they (over)paying the pool company? And, yeah, you don't own a piece of it so no chance to big foot their decisions. But whoever is doing the chemicals is out of their league and should be replaced.
And I'm kind of surprised at the poor TR communication. EITHER communication of competence would solve the problem.
Power to the old people!!!

Date: 2024-02-04 07:54 pm (UTC)I wear approach shoes made by climbing shoe companies. These shoes are made for walking over rough terrain to get to the climbing areas. I find them wonderfully comfortable and also they provide stability. They're usually about $100 to $200, but since I can wear a pair for literally years, I think they're worth the money.
