Amazing

Who in the world would have thought that in this entire house I have not one - not one single - spare keyboard. And, I'll bet, no spare mouse either. It's amazingly true.

I decided to try coffee again this morning. Turns out I've lost my drinking skills. The first thing I do upon sitting at my desk, is turn the cup over onto me, the keyboard, my NEW chair and the desk. Nice. Black coffee, no cream/no sugar. So it wasn't as bad as it could have been. The chair wasn't ruined. I didn't get burned. But the keyboard? She drowned.

Ya gotta love what liquid does to a keyboard. Each key took on a new assignment.

I looked in the likely places for one of my spare keyboards. Some asshole tossed 'em all out - must have been in The Big Toss Out of 05. Oh Well. I got on the laptop and did some shopping. Turns out black ergo keyboards (the ones with the hill in the middle) are not so common... And their price points are very similar and Office Depot is right in line. So off I went.

The drowning victim was part of a wireless keyboard/mouse set. I was never wild about the keyboard but never hated it enough to replace it. I like the one I got. Nice wrist rests. Just the right number/kind of extra buttons and a couple of interesting things. There's a zoom button in the middle that does not seem to work with Semagic but I just did something with it that brought up a little Google search window. That's kind of cool. Wonder how I got that?

I also bought a mouse at Office Depot but now I can't figure out why I need it so I'll just take it back. Note to self: stop off at used PC place and pick up spare keyboard and mouse. I can probably get a twofer there for $5.

The restaurant opening next door on Wednesday, isn't going to open Wednesday. I noticed the 'open Wednesday' sign was gone so I stopped and interrogated. The nice man said 'end of the week.' Bummer.

I have an Actiontec DSL modem that is my lifeline. I have set it up from scratch a couple of times and each time was a little painful. There are a fair number of settings that need to be set and about as many that need to be ignored. I need to capture all of those settings. I'm thinking screen shots would probably be the easiest. That's my little project this morning.

Work is still excruciatingly slow. On the up side, I did a little audit of what I have and what I need money-wise and I've got enough stash to get me through several months, thankfully. If things don't pick back up after Labor Day then I think we need to have a little chat with the boss. If he's got stuff planned, then I'm cool with waiting. But, if he's just hanging in hoping then, probably I need to start work on Plan B.

If you have time that you can look around a bit before you actually buy something, you will probably find a new keyboard in the $5 - $10 range instead of going for used for the same price. The Office Max here almost always has a keyboard in that range.
