I just plugged in all the info I have for taxes. I'm missing a chunk but I don't think what I'm missing is going to make the picture better. In fact, it's probably going to be worse. Turbo Tax says I owe $14,000 in taxes. Fourteen thousand!

Oh and a $2 penalty for not paying enough in estimated taxes.

ugh.

(To be fair, you might be able to hire them out to make the $2. The $14k, maybe not so much)

Check your TurboTax as mine is giving me $0 as standard deduction. So, it says I owe a lot.
But, I don’t think the standard deduction has gone away. At least not that I can tell using google…

The standard deduction remains: For 2023, it's $13,850 for single filers and those married filing separately, $27,700 for those married filing jointly, and $20,800 for heads of household.

Edited to add: For taxpayers who are 65 and older or blind there's an additional deduction of $1,850 for single or heads of household and $1,500 for married taxpayers or qualifying surviving spouses. See the IRS page for more.

Yeah, that’s what I’m finding on Google as well. I have to figure out why TurboTax is saying 0. Not the first bug I’ve found in their program…

That’s rough! While you’re feeling grumpy about money, is this the right time to ask for news about Steve The Lawyer?

Oh and a $2 penalty for not paying enough in estimated taxes.

That's the part that really stings.
