Years and years (maybe 20) ago, I asked my now retired financial advisor for someone to do my taxes. He gave me Gordon. Gordon did them painlessly year after year. And then one day- two years ago - Gordon retired. And I was stranded. My now financial advisor advised against going to the firm that Gordon recommended. (They will charge you way more than you need to be paying.) He and my brother told me to do them myself - Turbo Tax. I tried but failed so hit the 'do my taxes for me button' and got Pat who was great. She did my tax return and all was happy.
This year I went back to Turbo Tax and even had an option to use Pat again. Heck yeah!! Pat called me, all thrilled. I had a wrinkle, however. I can get a massive deduction from my Timber Ridge payments but I have to use an obscure form. No problem, says Pat. We set a date for review. Sunday morning.
Then, she called back. Problem. She says the obscure form required makes efiling impossible so she can't do my taxes.* So no other online tax software will work either. She will find someone for me. Turns out that was just her going to Yelp and picking some Seattle preparers with good reviews. I easily found two in Issaquah. Neither have room for a new customer this year.
*I suspect that online filing is fine, it's just not part of the Turbo Tax offerings.
So I decided to try H&R. I picked 'start online' finish with local office. I loaded up all my documents and they make you select a preparer without any info but whatever. I picked one. She called me. I'd left a note about the obscure form required and she did not understand so I explained. She caught on quickly and said she would figure it out.
Then Myrna came by with a postcard she had gotten in the mail 'this is a scam, isn't it?' Yup. I told her about my tax woes. She had had her taxes finished up last week and was raving about her tax person. But, I did not even ask. She said last night that her tax person has used that obscure form for the past 7 years with no problem and, it turns out, her tax person is at H&R!!
So I sent a note to my tax person with the name of her tax person - here's someone one obscure form experience. She said Myrna's person wouldn't be in the office until Wednesday 'i'll probably have it all figured out by then!' But she could not see the files I uploaded so she's going to call tomorrow. Worst case, I'll print out and hand carry in. The office is quite convenient.
Anyway, I kinda maybe think I have the problem solved now but whothefuckknows.
I ordered 2 cases of cat food and 2 boxes of litter from Chewy. The security guy who delivered it all to my apartment, asked me if I could please order more off and less at a time. Fair. Done.
We have a new puzzle started and it's cleaning day.
I finished Last Tango in Halifax. On to other stuff.
