I just had a caller who responded to the Google who are you message with "Mom. Calling to check in." Even my Mom, who died a decade ago, knew to send email rather than calling. Geesh.

The kitchen tour was fascinating. They prepare and serve meals in 4 resident dining rooms (3 for us and 1 for assisted living plus nursing and memory care) plus take out and a dining room for staff. About, I think he said, 1,000 meals a day. And most are to order. I took a bunch of photos for [personal profile] meowmensteen. They aren't spectacular because I was trying to listen to what he was saying and look at everything all at the same time.

Sweet! That was cool. That kitchen is equipped with everything. I love the big can rack.

Yeah, they really seemed to have a spot for everything. I like that shot you took of the ladles too.

god, that even beats the scammer I got for stupidity. She asks me if anybody in my family had Parkinson's and I go, "my aunt had it but she's dead" and she goes "can I have her phone number?" Like she's gonna call up dead people!!??

That one box containing reddish "Garnish"? I first thought those were worms in brine, but I've now decided those are pickled onions.

Oh, and that bucket of Nutella? I would love to have been able to give my dad one of those.

Also, them spuds are looking amazing!

Thank you for sharing these photos, they are very fascinating!

Our place also does kitchen tours. [personal profile] jwg have both done it (separately, because the one he had tried to sign up both of us up for was full, but then one spot opened up). It's quite fascinating. Running a kitchen like that is a major operation, and they showed us a bunch of stations, with screens that tell each station what they're about to have to do, etc. The food here is decent, although not as great as you describe yours as being.

That looks amazing! I love to cook but think I would hate being in the food service industry. Maybe I would change my mind if I could have a kitchen that well laid out with all the handy storage. That thing for the giant cans is the bomb! And I love the giant meal planner whiteboard thingies. How many people work in the kitchen on a typical day? Does each have their specialty?
