I forgot to raise the head of my bed last night so my nose got all stuffed up and Biggie (and probably my snoring) woke me up at 4:30. I snoozed until 5 when Biggie knocked some more stuff over. Then I gave up. I fed the cats, got on my suit and went swimming. It was still dark out when I got back. For some reason, this is so satisfying - having done a fine swim and be home having coffee before the day even starts. Weird, I get it. But, still.

Myrna has become my person, I think. Yesterday, she came down to tell me that she was going to be gone all day. 'I didn't want you to come looking for me and wondering.' She went to a play and then dinner. I thought it was sweet of her but then I realized that I really would have gone to find her after a while and wondered and then maybe worried. And, knowing she was gone, I didn't even start the new puzzle. Just holed up here with my old lady knitting.

I have already announced that the next puzzle will be my birthday volleyball puzzle. It should be complicated enough to take us through to Thursday. We might start it today. Or tomorrow.

This morning I'm off to H&R Block at 10. I have a short list of questions. And, I know she's going to want to senior splain the whole thing so I'm working on my attitude. She's busy. So it won't be for long and I can handle it. My goal is to not be short with her. Sign the thing and get the hell out of there. I'm grateful it is so convenient to get to and that I will have it over.

I turned down an invitation to a Mariner game yesterday. The idea of driving all that way, fighting the crowds, finding parking and doing the reverse after plus sitting in the cheap seats and paying too much for everything just puts me off the whole experience. I might go when Timber Ridge does its Mariner game but I also might not. I had glorious years in the very best seats with no traffic/parking considerations and I loved them. I'd rather sit here in front of my new TV and watch them.

I spent some quality time with Alexa recently and have streamlined my set up and my routines so that now everything works pretty darned easily and efficiently. I have fewer options here in this small apartment so getting them organized correctly was easier.

My brother found a new, to us, author recently who has two series both with lots of books already out there and available in the libraries. Audiobooks with a fabulous reader. I'm talking HOURS of excellent books. Peter Grainger is the author's name. And Google tells me he's still alive and still writing. What a treat.

I just tried to adjust the volume on my Alexa devices. Even with Reddit help I gave up. Alexa software is:

1 - On a phone, which is the worst possible interface to do something like set up Alexa stuff
2 - The worst app crap I've worked with

I think if I were by myself I might just box up all the Alexa/Echo devices I have and put them in the garage.

And all I wanted was to set the volume so that it is not screaming and not so soft I can't hear it. TONS of ways to do that all available on Reddit and with 25 years in computers and some low level programming it is too difficult for me to figure out.

OK.. I feel much better.

Sorry for stealing your entry for a rant.

My little old Echo Dot has a + and - for volume so I manually adjust.

Considering your troubles, I will probably never get an Alexa product where I can't just push a button to adjust the volume. Who needs the aggravation? But I use Alexa is really only used as a timer and for 'what are my notifications?' in my house.

Yeah, part of the problem is I've got four of them in the house and we use them for a bunch of stuff. Running the lights, playing music, etc. It would be a lot easier with just one. Or none!!

Have fun getting to know detective DC Smith. I haven't read anything by Grainger, but I'm open to giving his work a try....eventually.
